My experience is that if you don't flash some in the level 10 quest (Ul'dah's Most Wanted) the NPC who's with you won't survive, and that fails the duty.

I think there needs to be better dps training instead, where a NPC marks a target and the dps actually attack it, and instantly die if they don't. That would help tanks 100x better than any sort of tank tutorial.
I am LOL so hard at this thread. Is it really that hard to find a good tank? I mean ive been tanking from Beta and the class quests made a point in teaching me how to use Flash. Whenever mobs would attack the NPC and they would spam Heartstopper for days. I would lose everytime until i realized what flash did. (along with not standing in the AOE)
It isnt tank fail its dps fail. They dont wait to let the tank get agro and archers especially they have no concept anout assisting or hitting the numbers. They see multiple targets they auto fire aoe. Its almost impossible for a non ae tank that is new to deal with that.
This person gets it. As a war/pld both at 50 I can honestly say that war is definitely harder to maintain due to complex rotations however when I end up grabbing mobs and bunching them up for aoe I always get blamed for not keeping them. There's only so long that I can keep spamming OP and flash before I run out. So dps stop attacking the boss and kill the adds. This is the only reason I ever loose aggro that or some noob whm spams medica lol
For all those lvl 35+ tanks/dps that still havnt learnt their roles. Sunken Temple - Temple Guardian Gollem is a great way to for you guys to learn your respective roles, especially healers lol. That boss is a time sync for those who dont understand their roles.
It has been pretty hard for me lately. Once I started doing Brayflox I've noticed an...unusual amount of tanks that don't know what they're doing. They will always focus on one mob only, everyone is getting hit...You can run it to them or say, "Please get this off me" but they will still stay on that one mob until its dead. You can try to be friendly and give them some advice without being a jerk, but they won't listen.I am LOL so hard at this thread. Is it really that hard to find a good tank? You don't notice if you're playing a tank, just like I don't understand how you can have a bad healer...its pretty easy! But going through a few dungeons as a tank, I ran into a lot of healers who simply don't heal. You really should try doing a few dungeons as a dps or healer sometime so you can see just how many tanks right now just don't know what they're doing. I don't think people are complaining about decent tanks that lose aggro every now and then, its a bunch of tanks that have seemingly never been in a dungeon or any kind of group content before.
Quests will not teach you much about tanking with real people. Experience will. Thats why the dungeons and fights get progressively harder. They are also meant to be run more than once, for rewards and experience.
When rushed through the game cannot teach a player they skills they need to know for the endgame dungeons/bosses, nor the gil or gear they require.
I just think provoke needs to have its text seriously changed because it's super inaccurate at how it works. Most people will think it works exactly like FF11's when it is definitely not the case and used in an entirely different fashion.
Just change it to "Matches your enmity to the party member with the highest amount on the target." or something to that effect.
If anything they should also push on quests or something that the Defense stat on your gear makes a gigantic difference and you should be prioritizing it if you have a choice between two pieces of gear.

Brayfox is also a Good training dungeon. There are mechanic's in that dungeon that I see people ignore. Such as the second boss fight.
the last phase of that fight when the large Drake is after the gobbie, he keeps putting up Blaze Spikes. I have always get a chuckle watching some
Pug or Lnc get pissed at me, thinking I lost hate because they are taking massive amounts of dmg. even if I tell them before the fight to not hit the dragon before the fight
they still do it. There is a reason cancel auto attack is a General action. Sometimes not hit a mob is the right thing to do.
