I can honestly see why many players prefer being DPS' though and why there's a shortage of tanks in this game lol.
This person gets it. As a war/pld both at 50 I can honestly say that war is definitely harder to maintain due to complex rotations however when I end up grabbing mobs and bunching them up for aoe I always get blamed for not keeping them. There's only so long that I can keep spamming OP and flash before I run out. So dps stop attacking the boss and kill the adds. This is the only reason I ever loose aggro that or some noob whm spams medica lol

For all those lvl 35+ tanks/dps that still havnt learnt their roles. Sunken Temple - Temple Guardian Gollem is a great way to for you guys to learn your respective roles, especially healers lol. That boss is a time sync for those who dont understand their roles.

Quests will not teach you much about tanking with real people. Experience will. Thats why the dungeons and fights get progressively harder. They are also meant to be run more than once, for rewards and experience.

When rushed through the game cannot teach a player they skills they need to know for the endgame dungeons/bosses, nor the gil or gear they require.

I just think provoke needs to have its text seriously changed because it's super inaccurate at how it works. Most people will think it works exactly like FF11's when it is definitely not the case and used in an entirely different fashion.

Just change it to "Matches your enmity to the party member with the highest amount on the target." or something to that effect.

If anything they should also push on quests or something that the Defense stat on your gear makes a gigantic difference and you should be prioritizing it if you have a choice between two pieces of gear.

I'm new to MMORPGs and when I played Gladiator in phase 3, it never dawned on me that I was a tank until I started doing the dungeons. I never questioned why our abilities had increased enmity. Just thought it was a standard thing and nothing unusual about needing to protect npcs. It never clearly stated what my role was or explained how enmity worked and how to read it.

I blame the game itself for the abundance of bad tanks. The game is a terrible teacher. The only way to be a decent tank is look up stuff online.

Marking targets is also a huge benefit for the tank to do a good job of managing groups. Not to mention, it helps the rest of the group (particularly DPS) learn to work as a team instead of Rambo'ing their way through mobs without a care.

As a WAR, I'd like to point out that we have two very important movements we need to make in order to be effective. Both of these will shift the position of the MOB.

1: Overpower – Need to get positioning right to make sure all adds are hit with the cone attack
2: Avoid MOB attacks – We have a 30 second cooldown on our stun, so we need to avoid a large percentage of attacks by getting out of the way.

I have to agree that the earlier dungeons and quests do not do very much to train tanks on the importance of combo attack and sequence, and if you do not have people with experience to train you, and you go into a dungeon to try to train with strangers it is brutal. I had my first bad experience inside Brayflox, to me that is the first challenging dungeon, and if you do not know the proper sequences to pull and hold aggro, then get ready for a lot of flaming and trash talk in the party a lot of the time.

I was fortunate enough after my one bad pug experience to have good friends helping me train so the many deaths until I understood my skills and boss pattern was forgiven.

I would suggest tanks try to make friends with a few other tanks and healers, and try to get a safe training party together, and NOT go into a pug for training unless you have a thick skin and do not mind people raging on you.

This may not be the place for this but I think it would be great if Shield Lob would arc to a couple additional targets much like Avengers Shield in WoW. Would just help to grab enmity on the full mob in the event the DPS doesn't attack the same primary target as the tank.

I had a GLA in Halatali who wasn't flashing or holding hate on multiple mobs, let alone the one he was fighting. When asked why he wasn't using Flash, he responded with "Idk I never had to use it before" -_-

I ended up tanking most of the dungeon on SMN...and no, not my pet. Me.
