that's what shield lob is for.
This is pretty much what I thought at first but I learned on the first time using it it wasn't remotely close to XI's Provoke. Thankfully I tested the thing outside during just fighting normal mobs with my CNJ(now WHM) girlfriend. Pretty much said WTF is this? Never really used it since then but caught later on in another thread about it matching the highest enmity in the party and +1 more to get it back. While that does work, it still depends (from what I can tell) on the person with the highest enmity to not do too much for a few seconds (forever I know) so you can get true enmity back and plant it on you. I could be wrong...

...and it's a fact, that the ones actually fighting, are never perceived as being tainted.

LOL, I had such a bad time with hakkue mannor I have never been back to it. Was in a pug with a ARC,THM and CNJ. the THM only would use Fire II all the damn time. The ARC wouldn't focus on my target ever.
Provoke is useless if the DPS keep using attacks on the provoked Mob.

Nah don't train them. This way I get much more love because I'm a competent tank. Yes I realize I am being a douche

Those Guildhests are supposed to teach the basics of group play for all class roles. Problem is, nobody's gonna run them a second time because they give the most useless rewards for completing them compared to the first time bonus. No incentive for new players to run them when they can get better XP and GIL out of normal quests, Leves, or FATEs. Which is a shame, really.

I use brayfox as a diagnostic dungeon. I've set my rotations up as macro's to cut down on the button spam. I thorn between two play styles.
I have been a keyboard only player in FFXI and XVI 1.0. ARR went to a wasd/ mouse set-up which I hate. plus we lost the targeting we had in 1.0
so I'm using a game pad and also the keyboard now. I have use the crossbar for battle actions and hotbar 1 I have set-up for marking targets and
    misc party management.

Using macros to slow down the fight and learning to keep calm have been the biggest help in tanking. Some groups are better the others. I for some
reason have a problem when there is a ACN in the group. I don't know if it's the Dot's eating away at enmity or if it's just something in my head. It just
seems that I have to flash way more with I ACN or SMN in the party.

i don't see why training is even required, the tooltips tell you what each ability does... it's not that hard to spam flash and do your single target enmity combo

The hardest thing to learn is to flexibility.

If both people know how to accomplish something but go about it in different ways, then they will probably consider the other person ignorant and need training. I\\'m not talking about the clueless moron that doesn\\'t use his abilities properly, stands in the fire, and sticks to the actions that do dmg but no hate. Those people need more help than just training. But I digress.

I\\'m talking about things like where to tank the boss, mob kill order, which mobs get slept, how to handle adds, etc. Sometimes, BOTH ways would actually work, but if neither party is willing to adjust then they may attempt an encounter using both methods with often catastrophic results. Then they each blame the other party and call each other n00bs on the forums.

The hardest part is figuring out what to do with what is handed to you. Sometimes the only way to learn is to make a lot of mistakes first. Not a lot of players have the patience for that.

A big problem I've seen is, people think there is a mrd/gla rivalry, when you need both leveled up for the job. I've seen a lot of bad WAR thinking they can get to 50 using only their WAR abilities. PLD its actually less crucial to have mrd, but honestly if you're a career tank, you should level both. Most PLDs i've seen are good tanks actually, the few bad tanks I had were WAR, not all WAR, just the few bad tanks I had. Many WAR think, I'm just going to eat damage that's my class, but there are ways on mrd to take a few less licks >< and help your kind healer's mp (aka me). If you think the GLA quests didn't teach you to tank, what about "is it a rock, CLEAVE IT!" the general theme of mrd/war quests haha.

I think there needs to be better dps training instead, where a NPC marks a target and the dps actually attack it, and instantly die if they don't. That would help tanks 100x better than any sort of tank tutorial.

It isnt tank fail its dps fail. They dont wait to let the tank get agro and archers especially they have no concept anout assisting or hitting the numbers. They see multiple targets they auto fire aoe. Its almost impossible for a non ae tank that is new to deal with that.
