Gear with a story reason for being a certain way, like uniforms or class story armor or something along those lines, I'm ok with not being able to dye. Tradeskill and random armor that just exists to be within a level range should be dyeable. Especially if it can be worn by multiple classes

And because of this they bring the vanity system later.

I'm so happy you can't dye AF and endgame sets. They look perfect as they are, and we don't need people ruining them with ugly dye combinations. It's just an eyesore.

That can be said about any armor set, though. And in avoiding "ugly" dye combinations, we also miss out on some really cool ones.

Honestly, if vanity slots are going to be in the game, the rigidity of "canon colors" for AF really doesn't have a place. It'll just result in fewer people showing their AF/AF+1 because it doesnt fit with their character.

If we're going to go with lore being the reason, then isn't that even more of a reason to allow us to dye our endgame gear? Our characters play the role of the main characters of FFXIV, so why can't we have our own look like previous FF main characters?

It's just the way they want it. There's no need to be so demanding of every little thing, just for the sake of wanting more. AF/endgame gear have specific lore or significance behind them, your generic crafted stuff do not. It makes sense. It doesn't have to make perfect sense, but why should it? Player customization is a luxury, not a necessity. You play the game that they want to create, by the vision that they have for it at the time, not something that you think is free-reign. Their vision is more lore centric than player freedom. They might change their mind about it in the future, but for the time being, not gonna happen.

Lore is actually something that exists without a players existence, something that is established as a result of official writers with canon elements. Your personal existence in the game is not tied to any creation of lore, you only experience it.
