    Just a quick reminder:

    DX11 features are really about making the game look better and most important, to better use GPU and scale up with GPU power.

    Then there is stuff like ambient occlusion that is so poorly implemented and unoptimized that you can't really blame it on DX9.

    So really, DX10 or DX11 won't bring any significant boost on current hardware. What they need to do is optimize the engine, once they've got that they can start thinking on using DX11 for eye-candy and future proofing.

    Really hope so. Technically speaking, the game in this state, seems too 'limited' respect of what could be with its nice visuals.

    It most likely wont be the XIV development team who do this, so saying "theres more important things right now" is useless as those would still get done. Also a an environment artist wouldnt exactly be given the job of upgrading the engine.

    The developers of the engine would be tasked to do this (and so it'd be done for all SE games).

    I think it will happen sooner or later once they've got it stable.

    This is the company that took like 5 years to put in windowed mode for ff11, i can't see them doing anything until it is too late.

    Interesting WoW has joined Aion in the upgraded engine train would be nice if FF14 hopped on too...

    They didn't put it in FF11 for RTM reasons and to avoid forbidden external programms.

    There doesn't have to be any real graphic improvements to use DX11. DX11 can use hardware accelerated advanced dept of field and ambient occlusion and not the slow power hungry software/cpu based implementation that is used now. There are more things to DX11 besides graphic features but also multi threading optimization.

    This would be a good idea, the only problem I can see would be windows xp compatibiliy because it directX 11 was designed for vista and 7, it could be comatible with xp sp3, but im not 100% if it is then they really should do migrate to 11.

    In FFXI people with newer graphics cards are seeing lag problems because their cards dont support directX 8.1, and unless they do keep using directX 9 this problem will happen very fast, and it will be alot better for SE to implement a directX 11 upgrade asap. rather than wait.
