While this feature might create a few problems the ones it will solve are much more. Nice move from the dev team as this was a much needed feature.

Good. Getting kinda tired of seeing people in AK with level 28 stuffs along the right hand side. Especially when they bought the darklight chest piece instead of the jewelry presumably because it looked cool.
I'm curious how the gear requirement will work. Will every piece of equipment need to be x level or the average of all the pieces?
When you make an equipment set, the level of the set is determined by weapon level.
Gearscore ussually measures the average gear lvl, it ussually doesnt check if its class appropriate which is why its so easy to fool it. Carry-on-Luggage players have Always abused that loophole by slapping on some random pieces just to get past the gearscore requirement.
You dont like the way I do my job? I dont give a damn what you like, any of you.
If you are still alive and lance slinging a few years down the road,
and lucky enough to watch your family grow as you honor your oath.
Then you'll understand..
But getting old in my guild is a privilege.
We die so innocents dont, its that simple.
Once you pick up the lance, the life you lived stops being your own.
You can't get by with that in this game considering the gear is locked to classes. How exactly is it going to be easy to fool? What can you possibly equip on the class you are trying to enter content with that is ilvl 70 or above for Titan? You have to go out of your way to fool it in this game when its easy to properly gear yourself to begin with.Gearscore ussually measures the average gear lvl, it ussually doesnt check if its class appropriate which is why its so easy to fool it. Considering I stated how its ussually done and how THIS game doesnt have gearscore.. logics suggests IM talking how its ussually done in other mmos. You can't get by with that in this game considering the gear is locked to classes. You are right I cant Judge endgame gear at this point but I do have the feeling there are some items that are not class specivic.
Regardless, elitists wont take people based on gear with or without gearscore.

Srsly, I don't get this 'elitist' thing. There shouldn't even be an issue: you ought to be clearing the content and gearing up before you go on to harder stuff. Are people this impatient?
I mean, the terrible drops at Ifrit are enough to get anyone upset (I'm at win 67 with no cudgel for my BLM still), but cmon guys.
The fact is that some of these dungeons have been designed with a certain level of dps expectation and gear level expectation. To do them in gear significantly below this level does make it much more difficult for the party, to the point where it can be unworkable.
When you need to farm a dungeon many times in order to get sufficient tomestones to obtain af 2 for example, it can be very frustrating to get a party which you can see from the outset is unlikely do well. It is reprehensible and entirely unjustifiable to berate players for not being well geared enough, it is acceptable to politely say you don't want to do the run with them as you don't consider their chances viable. It is your game time after all and you can decline to spend it with whoever you wish.
I was in the position last night of being in such a group, players in af at best, with some level 30ish dungeon pieces. They also wished to do the full run which wasn't what i was looking for.
Since two of the group said they wished to do the full run I didn't disagree. I knew that our chances were small but also knew that it might be difficult for them to get a group so went along with them. The closest I came to criticism was to say "I think we will struggle with your gear level, but we'll give it a good go."
We failed and timed out on the final boss eventually, but they got to see the dungeon and can now see for themselves that spending some time upgrading gear would benefit them.
Why are people so negative all the time this isnt even an issue! Just get in game make some friends, join a good FC and play with like minded people - dont waste your energy and time just complaining about other players and enjoy YOUR game.
Peace, love and bananas to all <3
I for one support ILVL and Gearscores... the truth is, some encounters are designed arround certain level of output. having a iLvL by no means measures skill- but it establishes a baseline standard of what you need to achieve gear wise to be able to meet the throughput for the encounter.
YES! it takes effort to get that certain iLvL to be able to do certain content and that is reasonable- however its just the community that makes it toxic. - sometimes people demand iLvLs way higher than what is needed just so they can ROFL face roll encounters, that is the detriment.
