How to meld materia, filling in questions

Obviously, my question is about melding materia.

The quest for both breaking items into materia and melding materia have been completed and I have the skills. The melding materia quests specifically requires you to be lvl 19 in any DoH craft (except culinary and maybe one other). I leveled Alchemy to 19, completed the quest, and tried to meld my first piece.

I have the materia, the sockets, and the Carbonized Matter of the correct grade. However, in the materia melding box it still has a "Armorer craft required to meld materia" message. There was no mention of this in the actual quest, and regardless I went and started Armorer lvl 1 in case it was only requiring an Armorer's tool. This did not work.

End question: Does melding require a specific level of a specific class? (ie. lvl 19 Armorer). It seems ridiculous the quest would not have specified this, and that the melding box doesn't specify a level requirement, only a job.

Well - having the Armorer's toll itself (on lvl 1) will indeed not help - you'd need to level it up to 19 if that's the requirment.

    * One of the good leveling options is to perform the GC supply missions.

Sidenote: Despite how congested the servers supposedly are, my server (Durandal Legacy) is all but silent. If I ask a question I'm lucky if I've received an answer, any response even, for at least 10 minutes. Has everyone in this game taken a vow of silence or did they forget about the chat function in every MMO ever made? >.> Is every server like this? I'm debating a transfer. If absolutely no one in this game helps others it's not worth a monthly fee to play with people who may as well be NPCs :/ Even in instances, people don't respond to being asked if it's there first time so some important information can be given. I can't tell you how many wipes I've seen on Ifrit because absolutely no one reads what I say about focusing the Nail. It's amazingly annoying at best, a game worth not playing at worst.

It could be more down to fact that much less players on Legacy servers has the General chat opened as default rather than unwilingness to help in general.

Yes, melding requires the appropriate class and level. I assume the meld level requirement is the same as the equip requirement, but I'd have to check in-game to say for sure.

The quest requires you to be any DoH because it only unlocks the melding skill, which can then be used by any crafting class.

Yes I figured if armorer was required it would require a 19 armorer. However, I'd think the quest would state this if it were a requirement. Instead it specifically states *any* DoH craft. I only grabbed lvl 1 in armorer to see if the specific job was required, to rule out that possibility. However, if you DO need a lvl 19 armorer this quest needs to be fixed, or better yet explained in the actual quest so you don't spend tens of thousands leveling a craft you thought would allow you to meld but now apparently doesn't. Thanks to that I don't have the money to level armorer to 19 anywhere in the near future, and have thus been screwed by a quest description, not my own ineptitude.

The last part is exactly what I was asking, thank you. As long as you're sure any DoH can meld, my question has been answered. One of my pieces is 20 so I will take Alchemy from 19 to 20 this afternoon and see if it lets me meld that piece. Since this is noob help I will post the answer this afternoon in case anyone else is looking for it (especially considering /shout refuses to answer anyone's questions so they'll have to look here as I did).

Can't you try to meld (another) materia to another item? Each item (+ materia combination) requires different DoH so it might be "easier" / faster to jsut obtain the relevant set of items to be able to meld with your Alchemy class.

Isn't that ridiculously foolish though? Even games in which I'm far into endgame with, I keep the General (or Global) chat open to help new players. Hell, even here in ARR I help my low-leveled friends with any quest or shop I've found that they may not be aware of. It seems like a terrible community if they've left general chat off even right after a relaunch when their help is needed most. Very disappointing of a community, I expect much more from FF players :/ That honestly saddens me, but it at least makes it an easier decision to server transfer.

Well - I have only 1 character on Legacy server and so far haven't spent much time there but in all other servers the general chat tends to scroll at lightning speeds sometimes so I might understand the urge not to be there all the time although I DO keep it as default chat majority of the times anyway for both being able to help / advice other players as well as dig some usefull info from it as well (as long as I'll manage to hold of the swarms of spammers and gill sellers - which is something much unlikely to appear on legacy servers).
