Chances are that the Japanese just don't buy Gil like the non-japanese do. If no-one bought from these services they would not exist. That they have literally flooded most the NA/EU servers just shows that people are buying.

I think it all started in wow afew years ago. Now its spread like wild fire to any and every north american mmo release. It's an entire industry now they will not be leaving on their own.

No they existed in FFXI before WoW even came out...

As for the slow banning...it's probably because the GMs don't have the authority to banhammer. Regardless of how blatently obvious it is they have to escalate and trigger an investigation especially with cases of people's accounts being hacked and used to bot spam gil shouts etc. They don't wanna banhammer a legit account. I hope they figure out what sites are the phishers. It's all good to come out and say sites are phishing people's account info but without site names people can't avoid them.

No, it happened long before WoW. UO and EQ were both active with RTM, just not the constant spam since the staff were not spread so thin.

They should ban any account that does this. Password security and free software tokens is nothing new anymore.

FYI, I play on Ultima and we have gil sellers. I get a tell about every 15 minutes if I don't blacklist them. Need a fourth option in the "Send Tell" list: Blacklist
