This type of thing basically killed RIFT, and people hated it in WoW...If it's not really severe then whatever I guess but honestly that's going to stress people out more and probably cater to elitism in the community, like it did in those two games. I think it's pretty lame that they just come up with "solutions" to these issues without really getting any idea what the community as a whole feels about it and thinking about alternatives that don't force gate content to players.

Considering the best way to get the tombs you need is AK and is a gear check itself....

Not at all. I got my full set of Heavy Darklight spamming Castrun Meridianum. Why? because it is far easier to do with DF and PUGs. You get 100 Tomes per every ~45 minutes or so. I even macroed the instructions of the dungeon to explain it to the new guys.

Then finally my FC catched up and now we do speedruns of AK. But I did around 30 runs in Castrum before that, that's 3000 Darklight points right there.

And that dungeon is not hard at all.

I never played WoW so I don't know if gearscore is considered a bad thing there but I don't see what's terribly wrong with it. Much better than being in a level 50 primal/dungeon and seeing a dps class who's wearing level 20 accessories and a white level 44 weapon.

How's that guy supposed to get better stuff if he's barred from playing the game?

I guess you haven't done too much endgame yet. There is already a Gear check in place, the first you'll encounter is Demon Wall in AK. If you aren't geared up you wont pass it. Then there is Garuda Hard which is a little higher Gear Check than the Wall. And then you get to Titan, a very unforgiving Fight, and impossible if your not geared enough. Actually my FC is in that fight right now, and we decided to spend the week getting tomes to upgrade our gear (mostly accessories which were being neglected), then try again next weekend.

So make no mistake, Gear Checks are already in the game just that they are "hidden" in the boss fights. It is just convenient to let you know in advance you are not prepared to face such content. Saves you time (that you can use for gearing up) and saves the people you get paired with time as well.

The idea is that after finishing Main story, you go buy your GC leutenant weapon, or the relic precursor, or farm ifrit hard weapons (ifrit is easy enough to do on full AF and not so good weapons). Then go to Wanderers Palace for gear.

After that go to Amdapoor keep and farm the gear from there (its item level 60). The tomes you get there while farming let you buy a few Darklight pieces (ilevel 70)

With mixed Darklight and Amdapoor gear, you can beat garuda. Farm her for ilevel 70 weapons.

Keep farming Amdapoor to complete your darklight gear set.

Finally with Darklight and Garuda (or at least Ifrit) weapons, you challenge Titan.

That now is the way to do it, you can try and get shorcuts, but it will get ugly...

I like the lowering of repair fees and dark matter portion.

The gear requirement, however, I think will likely segregate players even further though. This is particularly rough for new players who will be running specific dungeons or instances for the first time too.

As long as it is resonable, like you can still do wanderers and AK in full AF and also IFrit HM. then thats all good. Also tho I think they should make it so it only matters if your signing up threw duty finder solo. if you have a partial or a full group it should just ignore gearscore all together.

As long as they don't do something stupid like restricting B Coil access to average iLVL of like 75 (impossible to achieve without the gear from CT/BC and CT isn't in game), I think it's a great idea. I think it will be more of a minimum check mechanism; something like iLVL 45+ for Ifrit Hard / AK, 50+ for Garuda, and 55+ for Titan is fair to everyone and easy to achieve. I wouldn't love to take someone with average iLVL of 45 on an AK run, but you could barely swing it in all likelihood as long as everyone wasn't iLVL 45.

People seem to think that every instance is going to require you to be geared to the teeth. This is only going to stop people from getting to Titan with level 44 white weapons and basic AF. The point is to create progression on newly 50 characters. WP > Ifrit > AK > Garuda > DL > Titan. That may not be exactly right but you get where I'm going with this.

Edit: I would love to see this on Duty Finder but would equally love to see this not on full pre-made parties.

This will do good for the community and reduce bad experiences from people that just don't understand what endgame gear progression is.

Ill explain it in a very simple term everyone can understand.

This is literally the same exact mechanic as locking out a level 15 from a level 40 dungeon...they did this as you were leveling up...When you hit 50 your level doesn't matter but what gear you wear does dictate what you would be able to handle just as you being level 15 dictates that you would be able to run the level 15 and level 10 dungeons...while getting murdered in the level 20 dungeon.

Completely agree with this guy; I don't know why everyone shouts "ELITIST!" when gear score is mentioned.

The only people complaining about ilevel checks are people trying to skip tiers. If you follow the progression of the game, you'll have 0 issues. But if you try to go from AF to garuda, youre going to die, your group will fail because you held them back and there is absolutely nothing stopping this kind of behavior. If you had a group of 7 people at titan hard and you were missing a tank, and the duty finder gave you a tank in AF and a lv.40 weapon PLUS you cant kick them, what are you supposed to do? keep leaving and re-entering 15 minutes later until you get someone decent? just prevent tier skipping with ilvl checks.
