Hey this may be revolutionary to you but I have two words..
Time zones.
There is a reason that every MMO in history patches in the early AM hours. This is sheer laziness. Regardless of timezone you are patching from 5pm-3am or 8pm - 6am. This window covers the prime playing time for the vast majority of subscribers.
Hello, center of attention. You don't know what timezone the "vast majority" of subscribers live in. So you enjoy this Japanese game? Deal with it and shut up.
Its a Japanese game.... Not America. You expect them to work at 3 am in the morning?
I am not agreeing with the OP but I just want to correct this and many other's comment. This is sheer ignorance.
Their NA and EU datacenter is in Montreal Canada. Their cage masters and sys admins working on this datacenter are all living in Montreal. So yes they are working nights when a maintenance like this happens.
Source: I know many of these sys admins and cage masters.

so what you're basically asking for is two different clients (like all the games do that have different maintenances)... which in turn usually also means TWO SUBSCRIPTIONS. the maintenance is not so much a server maintenance as it is also a maintenance to work on the entire game client, including uploading a patch. you really want a patch to be implemented during different times? or if that is not what you want, since it's technically possible, you want them to have the patch implemented for everyone at the same time, but have the server maintenance at different times? do you realise this would mean extra work for them? that's hardly cost-efficient and guess what? it would STILL make people upset.
that being said it's still the same data centre for both North America and Europe, and the maintenance is - for once - NOT during European peak time. in fact it's 3:30 in the night in Central Europe right now, where the majority of the European playerbase lives, and 2:30 in the UK and Portugal. so... you were saying?

Who's prime time? The game covers at least 9 timezones (for target markets) at various spots on this globe.
And can you please provide the subscriber numbers with region statistics, I've been really curious to see how many people have subscribed to the game.
In EU JP and everywhere that isnt USA, yea i no its hard o believe that there is more places in the world that isn't USA.
For these areas it's night time. Now from yosh him self in a interview he said he easy to please the usa but EU and JP are really hard to please and he says some other shit in there hes trying to bring in the big EU pop because as he said it isn't hard to get Americans to play a game.
On top of all that there JP work time happens to be during the USA peek hours, i wouldnt care if it was UK peek time to be fair as long as this game gets fixed and we can play it. The ending Result is all that matters.
P.S. if u dont like it u can always go play that silly game World of Warcraft.
