We need vanity slots ASAP!

I'd be happy to code it in for them if they made the game's source available to me; it'd be a nice feature and really shouldn't be that hard to implement if their code is reasonable. I'm sure there are many others here that feel the same way.

The point is moot of course since we all know that Square will never willingly let somebody outside of Square see or touch that code.

To be honest, it shocks me every time I see an MMO that doesn't have such functionality, especially given how well-received character customization was in City of Heroes 10 years ago... yet nobody seems to have matched that old game there. It was really nice being able to just make your character look how you wanted them to look instead of picking your gear based on stats; it's a shame that game is dead now, but it was fun while it lasted. Still hasn't been beaten with regards to just jumping in and having fun if you ask me.

I'm really looking forward to this feature too! Dye helps a ton, but when I am stuck wearing a style I dislike, or pieces of gear that simply don't coordinate well, it just doesn't cut it.

Q26: Regarding the vanity slot, when will it be implemented and how much freedom will we have?

A26: We are currently to implemented in patch 2.2 (second major patch). As far as the freedom goes, as we stated during the previous live letter, black mages will not be able to equip heavy armor, etc.

Can't wait to put together a nice outfit for my BLM. I've got a pair of dated leather caligae just waiting to be used with that nice black robe you get from the level 5 class quest.

I hate the idea, people should have to wear the gear that the design came with. Only place you would even use vanity gear is for town gear which you can do already with gear sets.
