Managing Disk Drive Usage for FFXIV: ARR

    Hey Tech-guys.

Quick question for you, with a bit of background.

Is there any files i need to NOT delete from the: C:\Users\username\Documents\my games\FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn

    ?

The reason i ask is because even though FFXIV: ARR is installed on my secondary hard drive, it seems to want to keep files on my C drive. And my C Drive on this current build of my computer is a Solid State Drive with only 180gb's of space, 60 of which is taken up by Windows 7.

As you can imagine, Space management is gonna be a concern of mine and something i'll have to keep up on.

So... what files in there can i delete? Which do i need to keep? I currently have a 'downloads' and 'screenshots' folders (not sure what the first one is, but the 2nd one is self explanatory. Along with 3 other files with names such as "FFXIV_CHR004000174A4344B7".

Can i delete those CHR00 files? or are they 'needed' in that my-games folder in order for FFXIV:ARR to run?

    Thanks for any reply =)

That folder shouldn't actually be that big, except for when it's downloading updates, but answering your question:

The CHR directories are your local character settings, you'll have one for each character and they store your gearsets and hotbar configurations. It'll recreate them if you delete the directories, but you'll have to set everything up again (assuming you were using gearsets and hotbar customisations). Although the CHR directories are relatively small though, even with the log files directory inside them mine only total 22Mb. If you want though you can delete the log directory and it shouldn't have any adverse effects. The character files themselves only total around 600KB per character.

The downloads directory should more or less empty itself as it's only used while downloading updates. It'll leave behind a 819KB ffxivupdater.exe (which needs to stay) and possibly it'll leave behind a few patch.info files, but they're typically less than 10Kb each so won't really be taking up any space.

The only other directory is the screenshots directory. You can safety delete/move any screenshots out of this directory as you want.

    Hope this helps!

Get your OS off your SSD. That only speeds up boot times and is wasted the rest of the time.

Ahh ty much =) wasn't 100% sure what all the files were, figured it couldn't help to ask. nothing else i'll just kepe an eye on the downloads folder and make sure it cleans itself out after patches =)
