Seems like they should do this, otherwise what's the point of adding swimsuits etc. if you can't wear any of it unless you're literally just standing there not doing ANYTHING? Even crafting and gathering is determined by the stats of your gear.

From what I've read a vanity system will be in place in either 2.1 or 2.2.

Those worried it will turn the game in a sexist bikini fest don't. The majority of MMO players use vanity systems to make lore friendly personalized costumes, and among the pervs it won't be just the female characters showing skin.
