"Drop support" as in stop releasing expansions, maybe. But barring PS3 users from connecting? What would be the incentive for that?
just curious, do ps3 players even survive large scale fates like odin?
To put their resources into something more profitable like other ports or ps4 and PC when support ing the ps3 version costs more than it brings in (after a lot upgrade to ps4.)
i hope they will add the game to the ps3 store again soon
Only due to the systems they had to implement to even get the ps3 to function. I still hold my opinion that continuing to release on the ps3 was the worst decision they made with this game, especially with the ps4 mere months away. It wouldn't be the first time SE has held back a promised title for years only to release it on a next gen console instead *cough* versus xii *cough* you know how many people probably bought a ps3 for that game? Lol.
Thank you for the responses. I tend to agree that the problem with XI was there was never a PS3 version of the game (to my knowledge there was a hack to get it to work on the PS3... but for all intents and purposes it was still a PS2 game). I guess, I just don't want to see them hold back a feature or capability because they are forced to support hardware that is aging very quickly. With the PS4 and XBOne coming out PC baselines are going to shift. Currently you can still find a large majority of games out there that say minimum requirements of an 8800GTX and a P4 CPU... which is pretty much what the consoles have in them. That baseline is about to shift toward a 580GTX which is a graphical leap of about 4 years, and it might even be pushing closer to the 680GTX. I just don't want this amazing game to be stuck in 2006.
Maybe I am worried about nothing, looking back over other long time games, they have been able to greatly expand the games will still providing support for older hardware (both wow and FFXI are huge examples of this) I guess it would just come down to what they will allow people with good systems to be able to do.
XI plays on the PS3 only if you have an early release of the console due to backwards compatibility, not because of a 'hack'. And I swear I thought this argument about 'console limitations' had died in a fire. They aren't going to be dropping PS3 support anytime soon, if at all, just like how they haven't dropped PS2 support nn XI in the last 12 years. If it wasn't for Adoulin I'd still be playing the PS2 version (admittedly, on my PS3). I honestly don't get all the hate over having a multiple version game like XI or XIV.
in 2 years, there probably wont be but just a very small percent of players on the PS3 version.... so cool your jets. if you think SE cares about a few percent, you are mistaken.Extremely doubtful that they will ever drop support for the ps3 users.
How do you think you would feel if you've been playing on ps3 for a few years, and due to your luck you never got around to getting a ps4 or maybe you just preferred the Xbox one instead. What then when they tell you "sorry guys but that game you paid for and all those monthly fee's you paid were great and all, but we regret to inform you that you can no longer log in with your PS3 since we've decided it's too old."
If you honestly think that won't enrage the user base that is on the ps3 then you are quite simply not a student of human nature. Square enix isn't that stupid either. Look at FFXI and you can see that they supported the PS2 almost the entire way despite the fact it hindered the game.
