ISP: Time Warner.

Type of Internet Connection: Cable

Internet Connection Speed: 50M/sec down, 5M/sec up

Date & Time: Any

Character Name: Bridge Burner

Race: Miqo'te F

World: Coeurl

Class/Level: 38WHM

Area and Coordinates: This can happen anywhere, but works best in town with active RMT spam.

Party or Solo: Solo (irrelevant)

NPC Name: None

Monster Name: None

In-Game Time: 1:30pm Eastern

Steps:

1) Go to a place with an active RMT spammer. Cities are excellent candidates these days; each morning brings 2 or 3 more to play with.

2) Add the spammer to your blacklist. This can be done with the Social menu or with /blist add.

3) Wait 30 seconds and confirm that you no longer receive RMT spam from that user.

4) Type "/blist", hit enter. This brings up your current list of blacklisted player names.

When you do that, your blacklist temporarily disables itself. If the RMT spammer is actively sending messages, you will typically see 1 message slip through the filter.

The blacklist reapplies quickly, so the RMT spam does not continue.

This probably explains why people sometimes still receive a stray message or two from RMT spammers, even after they've added a person to their blacklist.

Easy repro:

1) User checks /blist to see how many people they've added.
2) Spam slips through.

I had people in Ul'Dah on Coeurl test this problem from their clients. I asked people who had today's new RMT spammers blacklisted to type /blist, and report if spam got through.

Each person who tried it was able to reproduce this bug.

This affects PC and PS3 users equally.
