Don't think that's possible. Not with targeting..the targeting system is so clunky

I don't see the necessity. The DD literally have one job when it comes to trash mob killing: Attack whatever I'm attacking. That's it. Unless we're in copperbell mines I shouldn't have to hold their hands through that. If they don't like it then they can leave and sit in DF queue for another hour while we get a replacement DD is 10 seconds. I know I sound like a dick here, and marking things doesn't take a ton of effort, but when I'm playing on controller I don't feel like marking crap in some easy dungeon like Wanderer's Palace because some derpy max level DD can't do his only job without having his hand held.
I have no problem running things with new people, watching cutscenes, explaining boss mechanics, etc. But when some level 50 damage dealer goes "durr hurr tell me what trash mobs i shud attak lol" it really gets my blood boiling. Just a pet peeve of mine. >_>
As a tank, I think <attack1> is the most useful for me. I expect DPS to assist me, and rather than changing their assist macro for each new tank, I think they should have one that says "/ta <attack1>".
Edit: I suppose they could also set the tank as their focus target and use "/as <f>", but I like the <attack1> option.

Marking targets is quite useful and necessary. As a tank, I've found it really helps to do this so my dps doesn't focus on any targets out of order and wrest aggro from me. It removes most of the element of uncertainty.
Why wouldnt you? if you're rolling with PUGs it just reduces the chances of things going wrong. I like most people would like to think all DPS know how to assist, but this is simply not the case.
id rather not teach dps to be lazy and rely on it, if dps are so bad that they require big numbers above their heads i really dont want to be tanking for them anyways
I mark the targets mostly for the sake of my own sanity, I hate it when people DPS different mobs or focus on the least threatening targets rather than going after the mob that keeps AoE'ing the party. The way I do it is just keep the Marking box open (right-click target's healthbar in your UI and choose Mark from the dropdown list to open it) while I'm in a dungeon and just put "1" on the first target, do the pull and add "2" target before the first one is dead, so DPS has time to react and plan ahead. Since I'm only putting up one target and doing it "on the run", it doesn't slow down the pace and probably even makes it faster compared to not marking at all.
Expecting DPS to follow my target doesn't work well for two reasons;
1. It's slower and less convenient than just picking a mob (yes, you can use macros but most people don't)
2. As a tank, I keep switching around to build threat and stun secondary targets when there's enough buffer on the one we're killing right now.
/macroicon "Shield Lob"
/ac "Shield Lob" <t>
/mk attack1 <t>
That's about as much as I'll do for marking in a dungeon. Use it during the gcd to mark the next target. Not difficult for the DPS to understand. Makes things easier for everyone.
as a healer often using the dungeon finder, I mark the targets some times when I see that the tank and dps are clueless.

As a damage role often using the dungeon finder, I would like tanks to mark if they intend to switch between targets non stop.
Nothing like attacking the pulled mob, and get aggro 5 secs later. Then click on the tank and hotkey for attack target's target. Then surprise - 10 secs later, getting aggro again because tank decided to switch to a 3rd target.
At least if they mark it, I'll get some warning before switching.
Oh and please check if target is "fully rested" if I try to sleep it. That means... I can't sleep it.
