I love how all these counter arguments to the gil issue is "do something other than run dungeons". What other service do you pay for where you can't use it the way you intended, and was lead to believe you could, and are instead forced to (and encouraged by what seems a decent chunk of the community), to use parts of that service you don't want.

Please, go pay monthly fees to join some swimming complex, and let them tell you you can only use the pools once a week, unless you want to work there part time, then they'll upgrade it to three times a week. (Did I mention you still have to pay them, and won't get any monetary compensation for your part time work?)

Eitherway, you miss the fact that you earn less gil than you spend, so even if you limit dungeon runs to 3 a day, you'd still be spending the same amount of gil over time, and earning (or not) the same amount of gil over time, it would just be a longer time. Also, if everyone was gathering/crafting, who would buy the items? Everyone gloating about having plenty of cash because they sell on the Market Board would have buttloads of competition, would get undercut into oblivion, and no one would be making any money any more.

Maybe we can negotiate with Square to lower our monthly subscription because we're only using a small portion of the game, and not gathering/crafting. Some how I don't think that'll fly with them so why should the customers have to change their play style? FF14 is great, but some people simply aren't interested in gathering/crafting, and not only should they not be forced to, but if they are continually punished for their play style, eventually they'll leave and move on.

You're right in one thing; there will be those who move on. Unfortunately, this game may not be for everyone. However, it was never promised that you could do absolutely nothing but run dungeons in this game and still stand on your own economically. No MMORPG promises such things. Make no mistake that you are indeed free to play the way you want, but just as it is in life, there are consequences to your actions.
