    Noob Thaumaturge ?

question for the tanks. Do you want me to "sleep" spell enemies that you aren't attacking? The tank I played with tonight wasn't "great" at keeping enmity up on him so I'd sleep spell a straggler going for the healer. the other DPS said I shouldn't do that but I was just helping out the healer from getting attacked(this DPS was also causing the party a great deal of problems so maybe I shouldn't listen to him )
I also would pick the backside attacker on the tank to put to sleep. Is this wrong of me?

With PLD tanks, it is ideal to sleep adds so that 1) the PLD doesn't get a whooping, causing the WHM have to spam heal like mad, and 2) healer doesn't draw hate and get whooped as well. The fight will just go much smoother. Healers that don't have to spam cure can also contribute to debuffs like aero and stone and contribute some to DPS.

However, with a WAR tank, he may choose to use AOE to attack all mobs and so sleeping in the case will be redundant. You may have to talk to the group which approach is better in this case.

As a WAR, if you do want to sleep, say so beforehand. I personally don't have any problems, but when I'm tanking I will use my AoE attack (which damages them and thus removing their sleep status). And try to put a marker on the one you do, since I always periodically hit each of the ones I'm tanking (to take the hate from the healer).

But generally it's all on you. If you think it helps the team, just do it. It's not like hitting the mob after you put it to sleep wipes the party, only lost the time you could've cast a damaging spell, which isn't that significant.

Though I have to say that in later dungeons, you will have to sleep some enemies to make it a lot simpler - if not a must.

I have played with other tanks that sleep wasn't needed. I had just noticed that this one wasn't using AoE attacks, so I would pick a mob that was not being hit by anyone...common sense to me

If the DoT is on the mob it will still sleep. If someone casts a new one it'll wake up.

    Back on the subject....

I'm a BLM and I if I have a PLD tank I always ask them to mark their targets and let them know I'm sleeping. Then I sleep things that the party isn't fighting. It just makes thingso much easier and smoother.

It gets easier later when you get a trait that turns sleep into an AoE.
