PS3 to PS4 Upgrade Question

I wasn't sure where else to post this, so I'll ask here. With the announcement that we will be able to upgrade our PS3 versions of the game to PS4 for free, I was wondering if that would apply to hard copies of the game. If so, how would that work?

Where did you saw such announcement? Can you link to any source? As far as I know you'd need to purchase the copy of the game for each new platform (PC or PS3 or PS4) you'd like to continue to play on with the same character(s) and register it to the same SE service account.

It was announced by sony at the pre TGS conference yesterday.

Most likely that includes any version (DD or hard copy, Standard or CE) - for all of them you need to register / activate it via PSN so I'd say SE will distribute the activation codes to all the PS3 players or there will be another button / option added to mogstation.

Since its linked to your psn account, I would imagine you can download the game via ps store or redownload section, assuming similar function exists on ps4

Is what speculation is, because they are doing this for the "9.99 Upgrade" for lets say Madden 25 if you already own the PS3 version to upgrade it to the PS4 version when that drops.
