Since we got a dev post on this I might as well ask about this too: http://www.wowinterface.com/download...atencyFix.html

This is supposedly a program that can help with the latency issues people are having, albeit not something that works for everyone is this even allowed? I am not very computer savvy so it would be nice to get a rep response on it simply because I'd love to try it if it is allowed.

It is not a modification of the game and it's data itself but a modification of the inner workings of your OS and thus it is allowed. BUT it is NOT recommended to do this as it actually does decrease the overall network/internet performance. It is way too technical to list here but yeah, there is a reason why such a "lag" feature exists in the first place The only way to reduce the lag is for SE to use UDP instead of TCP with proper mechanisms to ensure the integrity of the data flow between the client and the server.

I don't see why it wouldn't be allowed as it does absolutely nothing to FFXIV (or any game) itself.

I've done many tests making the change in the registry whilst monitoring my latency through the performance monitor, and I've come to discover that this "fix" is actually detriment to the game. My latency is always a good 20ms higher on average when using the "fix", and that's not to mention all the other detrimental affects it is having on your system.

Those features were put into Windows by people far far smarter who know more about networking than any of us. It is there for a reason and personally, I don't think you should touch it no matter what the circumstance. But again I can confirm it does not help FFXIV in the slightest, so please don't do it.

This just turns the nagle algorithm off, which results in packets being sent less than 200ms apart, ultimately it's -not supposed to- fix anything if the developer already turned nagle off. The TCP offload engine may result in neutering said fix anyway or making it worse, in your case. This fix gets thrown about more often in Action based games (eg Mabinogi, Wizardy Online, various FPS games) because these games have really bad network code to begin with. Ultimately it's perceived as cheating in these games because you end up with sub 200ms firing rates, which means the difference of Han shot first.
