    Well that was exciting...

I was just auto-running south down the path in The Black Shroud towards Thanalan (Besaid server), not paying too much attention (as it's usually pretty safe) - I was distracted reading forums - and suddenly my character's dead. XD
I look around myself to find a level 41 Skeleton Soldier. Is this thing even supposed to be there? lol I wasn't taking any detours. Straight south.
Anyways, it gave me a good laugh, and it'll teach me to pay more attention. :x
One thing I miss from FFXI is sometimes having to avoid a few dangerous beasts to get where I'm going. (It doesn't seem to happen as much in XIV.) It's exciting, and I feel some sense of accomplishment if I can get out of a tricky situation. It would be cool if SE added a few more dangerous creatures spread out on the maps. Beastmen perhaps!
Nothing that would get you stuck though (that skeleton was in a small path - no way to pass without dying... I actually waited a minute for a high level person to run past first then ran by.. lol). But it would be nice to see some more slightly dangerous critters roaming about. (Perhaps not a level 41 in a level 10 area though! haha).
It's little things like this that give the world a sense of adventure and danger.

Never noticed any mobs like that while running to Uld'ah from Gridania... but I think SE sometimes Ninja moves or introduces mobs on the maps
(Like the antlings that disappeared from the road to Drybone).

I noticed that too! I hadn't seen antlings for weeks until just yesterday and today! I was kind of happy to see them back. Fun to avoid them. lol

I had something like that happen to me during my first week with the game. I was exploring the area around Ul'dah, like around the entrance area, and decided to take a right toward the pillar/rock formations. I was, I believe, a rank 7 lancer (not sure about my physical level) and I stumbled across some weird dog/cat/hyena looking thing. Since this was my first week I had no idea about the color indicator/orbs by the names, so I didn't know this was something I shouldn't be messing with.
I wanted to get a closer look at it so I got closer and thought it looked awesome, but intimidating at the same time. I guess I got too close because it backed up and got into some defensive posture and growled. The minute I saw that I knew I was in trouble and tried to run away; it did one bite and hit me for 10,000 points of damage. No kidding. I remember it was that much because I was left speechless, I tried to reat what I saw on-screen but all I could say was, "ten...ten tho....thous....what?!" I laughed pretty hard too, it was pretty funny.

Yep, nearly ran into that a few times on a lower rank job heading to Black Brush... but I haven't seen that for weeks either.

Back during beta when Gridania first was released there were Wolves at all of the tunnels. You couldn't even complete leves in Gridania unless you had a full party that could take the wolves.

I have to thank Square-Enix for the amazing job they have done recreating Final Fantasy XIV from Scratch. Especially the inclusion of Missing Genders which we petitioned for in good faith. This was proof to us players that the Developers are truly Sympathetic to our requests and that being honest and vocal can pay off with the amazing characters we have who are Female Roegadyn, Male Miqote, and Female Highlanders. Thank You SE, Thank You Community Team, Thank You Yoshi-P.

Perhaps SE ninjaed it away to harass other camps around Eorzea....but while it was there, it was quite exciting waiting for the area to load so you can scamper away safely in the RIGHT direction. I remember trying to get past it while the zones were loading and just HAD to pick the path where it was sitting around. >.<
