I have a question regarding this. If provoke is indeed automatic highest-threat +1 , if you started a boss fight by having your BLM cast a giant nuke on it as you run into engage and you provoke right after, would you automatically be at the top of the threat table with all the hate the BLM generated +1 ? Or am I missing here - like does provoke have a max cap on how much enmity it can actually add to your current level of threat?

You are correct and no Provoke doesnt have any cap on how much Enmity it can produce it's simple as highest enmity+1.Now i dont see why you would want to do that as the BLM will still sit just under you with -1 to your enmity when you use Provoke

You would instantly be on the top of the threat table yes. However, bear in mind that if your BLM directly casts a second high damaging skill, which outdamages your next threat gain.... you're screwed. As your BLM would be tanking without the option to provoke it back. So it's a trick which could only work well if you work together as a team. However, if that's already the case anyway there's also no reason to just ask the DPS to hold off a CD or 2 if threat would be an issue. Easier, and less risk involved.

Which is why Semont is correct in saying the best moment to use Provoke is when you have Rage of Halone combo'd ready. It's very difficult for any DD to pull aggro off of Provoke+Halone.

And before you start it again, this is obviously in the case of the DD taking aggro from you in the first place. If you have aggro, you don't use Provoke.

I think Provoke is perfect the way it is. It's amazing when you have 0 enmity on a target and you need to get it off your ally immediately, but it still takes skill to use because you have to follow it up with more threat. A forced target for X seconds thing is far too easy-mode in my opinion.
