So with this event starting is there any word from Square about lifting the embargo on selling the game? Or are they going to wait until the event is over so that new players can enjoy having missed it because Square underestimated the server loads?

1.) Only digital copies aren't being sold. Physical copies are still available.
2.) How would re-starting digital sales before the end of the event improve things? Servers would become even more overcrowded, leading to full servers more often, meaning people would still miss it.
3.) It's not much of an event, anyway. It's farming a specific FATE once or twice, then buying a swimsuit (or several) and some sparklers. That's it. At least one of the FATEs is permanent (the one in Costa del Sol), and a swimsuit is free with your second month's subscription. There's no special story to participate in. No NPCs to really interact with; you just buy from them. In my opinion, calling it an Event is really stretching it.
Its not as if its some big event anyway. You do some mindless fates (which are all exactly the same btw) and then turn in the rewards for some swim suits. I wouldn't even hardly consider this an event. It could be in game full time and people wouldn't hardly even notice if it wasn't for the decorations.
