    I feel your pain

I know what you mean and i feel your frustration. To counter this issue, i made a macro i used when i start a dungeon. This is my macro :

    "Hello, nice to meet you.
DPS, please FOLLOW THE MARKS IN ORDER.
This IS NOT WOW.. It's FF14.. don't be n00bs and FOLLOW the numbers"

Ok honestly, these lines were not like that, but after i read your post, i will make some changes and this is what my macro will say !

Now, if after that, stupid DPS still don't follow the numbers... I will talk to the other players and make a deal with healer. I will not tank and healer will not heal the stupid DPS. After he dies 3-5 times, he will either follow the marks or leave the dungeon.

Don't be afraid to step up and LEAD.

Party will appreciate this. trust me.. i had to do it about 5-6 times.. and some left, but those who stayed, they appreciated.

As a tank, you need to lead your party and sometimes, you need to educate some people...

The problem sadly is that as the tank you have to lead more often than others. But then here's the problem, what if you don't know the dungeon? While lvling up and going into dungeons for the first time that's the struggle I had. Luckily I found good parties in DF who explained the mechanics so we could 1 shot them.

But sometimes after a hard days worth of work or having to babysit tons of people that day. Having to explain and hold everyones hand takes its toll especially on a tanks, since like you said there is a reasonable expectation that the tank leads.

Obviously a lot of this would be alleviated if people knew how to play their class, not knowing mechanics can be overlooked but having to tell people how to do their own job? That needs to stop, people should know what skills they have draws the most hate. There's a meter for crying out loud. How dumb/lazy have gamers got to where they can't see a meter moving with their abilities and not adjust?

I think it's the actual design of the 2 tank classes and mechanics of certain fights as well contributing to the tank issue. I am betting a lot of tanks will quit tanking in the 40/50 level range.

    Issues I saw with tanking:

targeting system sucks no matter what way you alter it

global cool down/animations are to long

switching targets every ability is just tons of fun

interrupts and stuns on the gcd?! I'd like to meet the designer who had that brilliant idea...

aoe threat is laughable especially at the lower levels coupled with the fact you have no aoe taunt

boss mechanics that you have to run and get adds, move from an aoe, and re-position boss every 5 seconds guarantee your going to have threat issues because you cannot get more than 2 hits in between movement

anyhow just my opinion and I am definitely retired from tanking

I know a lot of tanks go in fresh, but I never tank a dungeon the first time with players I don't know. I either run the dungeon as a dragoon first, watch videos on YouTube, or ask my FC for advice.
