in eq2 back when i played during kingdom of sky, i would literally set up a keyboard macro to hit 1234 and would go to the bathroom, come back and still have aggro just fine, mind you this was on fights where like you said i just had to stand in a corner.

Those indicators are your lifeline as a tank. Now that you know they're there and what they mean, start making it your second nature to be aware of them at all times. When pulling aggro, you want the "traffic signal" indicators to all be red squares on you. That means you're doing your job and their aggro is just for you. But even a red triangle means you've lost aggro to someone and you're only second most hated now. Literally, the instant a red triangle comes up as an indicator, you should fly off the handle with a lob or a flash and scream into a headset, "YO MOB BITCH WHAT YOU THINK YOU DOING IMMA CUT YOU". I don't believe this part helps in pulling aggro back, but it makes me feel more connected to the moment.

I run into the same thing. Flash alone is barely enough to hold adds off healers let alone someone attacking them. I even have macros for target marking etc. doesn't help. If I play my pld it's work to hold stuff. Now if I play my war I don't care as much cause flash+overpower is enough

I don't know if I have anything useful to add at this point, but here are my thoughts.

I only played WoW for a short time, so I can't comment on it. I did spend a lot of time with XI, though. We all know that hate management is a team effort, and to that end I think XI did a much better job than XIV of teaching newbies about hate early on. The reliance on parties for general level progression, EXP penalties on death, and a generally slower pace of battle, made each fight a little more important. For a game that relies so heavily on group content in endgame, XIV sure does a poor job of introducing basic party mechanics. The Duty Finder, while a great tool for experienced players, is too impersonal for new players to learn the ropes. Most everybody's first party experience is being thrust into an important story mission with complete strangers. In XI, everybody went to the Dunes around level 13 for their first real EXP party. There they made friends (and connections), and learned what it meant to work as a team. XIV lacks that.

After running amdapor keep so many times you get too tired of it to care about waiting 5 seconds for the tank to generate hate. I go ham on the mobs as soon as the tank pulls, and yes sometimes they target me but even as a dps it really isn't that hard to tank a few mobs. I realize it isn't the tanks fault that he's losing aggro, I just can't be bothered to use any sort of strategy to kill trash mobs that give me 1 gil, I just want to get past them and move on. That being said, the tank i run with is my friend, so he doesn't care what I do, as he is also eager to finish the dungeon.

There is nothing unique about FF11's or this games threat system. In fact WoW threat used to function the exact same way. Dps and healers both had to watch their output.

For most of WoWs life, a five-man dungeon crawl had far more to worry about then anything you find in this game. We're talking about crowd control on every single pull, even in the earliest dungeons, or the group wiped. The classes also had access to more abilities that would flatout wipe the entire group if misused, such as several different versions of fear.

WoW has gotten easier last expansion, yes, but there is no reason whatsoever why a WoW vet shouldn't walk right into this game and perform their role. There is nothing they haven't seen or dealt with before.

Blaming WoW ultimately just absolves the individual player of responsibility. Anyone with ANY experience with ANY trinity based MMO should catch immediately. If you're screwing up its on you, not because another game trained you incorrectly.

    You are terribly wrong.

You do realize that it is extremely easy to unload on a boss, shank threat from the tank- especially if the DPS outgears the tank a bit- right?

Threat management is party wide. Granted I haven't had many issues with threat, but the one or two times I have it has always seemed to have been a bard that seems to think it's okay just to blow everything they have on the boss before I can even get it positioned- and NO, that is NOT okay and that fault lies within the DD.

speaking as a warrior, if a dps pulls aggro off of me it's because i got distracted in real life. if i am paying attention, no one will pull aggro off of me, ever. and i dont just sit around spamming overpower so it's not an aoe threat thing. i genuinely believe that if a tank loses aggro after the initial pull, it's the tank's fault.
