I think this is the 38204838102399 th time on this forum that the people blaming WoW turn out to be completely lying because like every post reveals how uneducated they are. I'm probably gonna make a compilation of these people and repost it.

Mages can invisible to reset threat.
Shadow priests can fade every 30 seconds to deal with adds without ever considering threat.
    Hunters can fake death.
    Rogues can vanish
Locks can use the soul gem to do his thing to reset threat.
Warriors can reset threat by using real death (loooooool) and ask for a battle res.

The main reason a tank can auto grab everything in WoW was never because of the tank, it was because of the misdirection from the hunter to misdirect all threat onto the tank. Over half of the fights starts with the Tank usually just stand still and wait for the hunter to feed the boss to him.

Every single Mage in WoW will know that if they start with infinite Arcane Blast and don't invisible, thereis no tank on earth that will hold aggro.

The list can go on and on. It was never hard to overthreat in WoW.

I'm pretty sure all WoW dpser will notice the first thing how threat is so different from WoW. Threat resetting is part of the basic rotation.

The kind of people the OP describes are just stupid and probably have never raided in WoW, or they play other crappy MMOs.

Next time you wanna blame something do more homework or someone will find out.

Seriously, no one else thinks the "instant aggro from WoW" in the OP abit too suspecting? (that he never actually played it. He can't even mention a single skill name or class name or any term at all?). Coz a rant coming from a WoW player would probably be something like "Why are there so many WoW nerds thinking they still have misdirection to open fights, or have invisibility to blow everything on the boss with no consequence at all"?

Well, you are free to copy my example for later use, no need to credit me.

My main frustration comes when I have to tank multiple targets at once.
You can tell that Flash, and Shield Log do the trick - but for example in a Castrum Meridianum where you have so many ads - it doesnt always work!
With Flash, Shield Lob and very long recast for Provoke tanking those ads is very difficult.
And then I have to listen to comments like: you are zero, hopeless, FATE grinder, and so on and so on. After one Dungeon I dont want to be tank anymore - so little tolerance for a lack of skills, that its not really my fault!
I would love to see in a future better hate controll against multiple targets, and some new skills that would really give me a lot of AOE enmity.
I'm open for any suggestions - how everyone else is doing, because I tried everything - the more I try, more I get criticized!

Usually when I queue I let everyone know in the beginning that I won't be picking up the slack for others, I let them know where the enmity bar is, how I will be tanking, and to ask any questions now before we run through. The success rate of this is above 50% but you do have your asshats but at least if I can teach 1 person out of the group to be a more aware player I think I've done more than I can be ask for.

Everyone wants smooth runs and to enjoy the game, I think "community" is missing from MMO's now - not many people willing to help but rather just rage from 0-60 instantly, especially from the DPS.

I've had experiences like the OPs on many occasions. I saw a DRG on stream who said "I like to start every fight with blood for blood and Dragonfire dive". He's front loading with burst damage because WoW taught players that tanks have unlimited threat gen. Good players will listen to the feedback you give them when you explain how it is and unfortunately the bads will just say "lol" and keep on being an assclown.
I get frustrated when I go into a multi-mob pull by tossing out a flash and my crappy AoE that's on a 25 second CD and the DPS go ham on the focus target. I aim to gain solid threat on the primary target, which causes the secondary targets to instantly aggro on the healer. Typically not the healers fault, just as result of the DPS rolling their face on the keyboard as soon as the pull begins. Sometimes the healers do silly things like toss out a heal before I even hit a mob, but I feel it's fair to give them the benefit of the doubt as their job can be difficult.

    Damn character limit...
Don't get me wrong, I actually enjoy a challenge and I found tanking in WoW (after doing it for 6+ years) to be a snoozefest. On the other hand I found tanking in a game like TERA to be more difficult but incredibly rewarding and fun if I played well. Currently in FFXIV ARR, while I feel like there are definitely things I can do to make the encounter go more smoothly, the bulk of the threat control is in the hands of the DPS and healers. If they took some of that control and gave it back to the Tanks allowing for some more interesting game play with handling mobs (CC, interrupts, snap aggro or even positioning abilities) it'd be a lot more interesting for tanks and better for overall game play then just giving us a bunch of damage mitigation CDs to cycle.

However tanking in this game is hard because of how (My assumption) Warcraft evolved tanking to be so faceroll.

DPS classes I play with automatically start going buckwild on mobs I just pulled (Namely Bards and BLM) before I can even get a Savage Blade or Flash on them.

These people are so used to faceroll tanking and instant aggro from WoW that it makes tanking frustrating and them rage at me for not having aggro.

Vent end. Have you guys had similar experiences?
Let them die every time, they will learn or leave. Either way you and the rest of the group win.

The problem, also, is that there are far too many terrible tanks and DPS assume they're going to be tanking regardless. BLM and BRD probably have to deal with that the most. I rarely find a tank competent enough to hold hate over me simply spreading my DoT's to speed up the EXTREMELY boring AK trash. 9/10 I end up with 2/3 mobs on me after typically waiting til the first mob is 50%ish to Bane (spreads Bio, Bio II, and Miasma to everything within 5 yds). I'll say it straight, if you can't hold agro over summoner DoT's you need to go back to Hello Kitty Island Adventure. That game is much more of your "level."

All in all, while you may be having problems on one end, I find most tanks to be window licking, paint chip eating retards and THAT is far worse than trigger happy DPS.

I've tanked for over 10 years now, and truthfully wanted a break. I am sorry I chose to do so here. Tanked WoW from vanilla up through the end of Cata, Rift from the beginning of Rogues actually being viable (pretty much the easiest game to tank in yet), and Tera until I crunched the numbers on just how grindy that game was after a few months of being max level.

Yeah, I tanked in WoW for years and thought I would make pugilist my main for this game. But I found that I couldn't stand giving up the control of the battles that tanking provides, especially when I see other people doing it badly.

This is more of less why I tank. I started off healing in Vanilla WoW on my druid but ended up tanking (Yes feral druids could tank in Vanilla despite the hate) because I got tired of the bad tanks.

There have always been bad DPS since Vanillla WoW but instances certainly got dumbed down over the years to the point where it was just AoE tanking and AoE nuking throughout. I always preferred 5-mans to raids but 5-mans, even on heroic, became a joke.

Class skills like hunter kiting and suchlike became things of the past that only veteran players had heard of, let alone were able to do.
