"Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn has stopped working." when hit play on launcher.

    Hello everyone,

Ever since early access started, and I received my early access code to begin playing the game I have been unable to load FFXIV on my PC due to an issue that, as of yet, I have been unable to solve.

In general the whole process work normally in regards to starting the launcher, checking for updates, and all of that. I am able to get to the launcher's page and see that it updates regularly and I get patches to the client/launcher whenever I load up the program. The launcher accepts my credentials when I log in and I am presented with the "Play" button where the log in information is normally. However, when I click play I get a new window pop up and the launcher closes, this new window is completely black and I am immediately greeted with a "Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn has stopped working." error window and the only option is to close the program to the desktop and not have an error window show me any information as to why it has happened.

Following is a list of all the steps I have taken in my attempts to correct this issue:
    • Check to see if my drivers were up to date, which they were.
    • Disabled antivirus and firewall and attempted to launch.
    • Enabled compatibility mode for XP SP3 for all users, and enabled run as Administrator for all users.
    • Manually stopped most unneeded running processes to see if there was an issue.
    • Reinstalled the game with antivirus and firewall disabled to see if either had caused issues during install.
    • Changed system screen resolution to 1024x768 to see if the resolution was having an issue.
    • Set up port forwarding for port number 55296 to my desktop. My research has shown that FFXIV uses that port.
    • Edited the config file to run at my monitor's resolution.
    • Disconnected secondary monitor (television) from system
    • Booted into safe mode and attempted to load software.
    • Installed DirectX 9 in the off-chance that was the issue. Currently running DirectX 11.
    • Utilized a driver clearing program and wiped all AMD drivers for my graphics card and reinstalled only the most recent ones.
    • Installed .NET Framework 4.5 in the off chance that was causing issues.
    • Reinstalled client and provided the installer 'Run as Administrator' and 'Run in compatibility mode Windows XP sp3' options.
    • Cleared DNS cache in the rare chance there was an issue there.
    • Enabled compatibility and administrator rights for the ffxiv.exe file.

I loaded up event viewer and looked at the error reporting and saw the following information.
Faulting application name: ffxiv.exe, version: 1.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x521be282
Faulting module name: ffxiv.exe, version: 1.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x521be282
    Exception code: 0xc0000005
    Fault offset: 0x008e1146
    Faulting process id: 0xd3c
    Faulting application start time: 0x01cea78994b9a2d0
    Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn\game\ffxiv.exe
    Faulting module path: C:\Program Files (x86)\SquareEnix\FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn\game\ffxiv.exe
    Report Id: d4857bcd-137c-11e3-90e4-902b3498fa43
If anyone could lend a hand with this I would greatly appreciate it! I've had to go and get the game for PS3 in order to play it and I'd prefer to be able to play it on my PC. I am not sure what else to do to get it working on this PC...

    Issue still persisting.

So, I still cannot load the software on my PC. I have applied all updates and continued to attempt off and on to get it working. I would really enjoy playing this on my PC if it was at all possible.

If anyone finds this and has suggestions I will be in your debt if it gets this game working on my PC.

I've heard that some people have to turn their Internet Security off to play the game. You haven't mentioned that you've tried to play the game with your internet security turned off - only when reinstalling the game, so I was just wondering if it's something that you've tried? I know it's a long shot but it's worth a go? Hope you can get it sorted and enjoy playing the game soon!

I'm getting this problem now too. I had been launching and getting in just fine until now. I assume this new patch messed something up for some users. SE please address this issue.

I can't launch the game as of today.

After entering the password and pushing the login-button, Windows tells me, that there is a problem with the game and it has to be shut down. No idea what kind of error or problem this is.

    Can anybody help?

I closed the internet security, iTunes, my browser, everything - and it don't work...

Is there a possibility to download the whole game again? If yes, where can I find that?
    __________

Yeah, problem solved. My login has been restricted because of suspect login tries.

Thanks SE that we see a WINDOWS ERROR MESSAGE if there are problems with our account. Very smart to give us such a nonsense-error-message that is nowhere related to Windows.

it maybe is a problem with the password.

The Launcher seems to been programmed by a trainee or so and instead of handling the Exception with a correct error message in the launcher, this exceptions seems to to be caught and so windows stops the program.

Try to look into your Account management and see if there is a message... something like:
"Based upon recent suspicious activity, we have identified that your account may potentially be at risk. For your protection, we have temporarily suspended login access to this account. Instructions for lifting this restriction have been sent to the email address registered to your Square Enix Account. For more information about the login restriction, please refer to the following page:...."

change the password and it maybe works again.

Okies, what Internet Security are you using? The reason I ask this is because I had a problem with my internet security (ESET at the time) where it wouldn't let me log into LOTRO after an update. I never used to have the problem but one day after an update from LOTRO it would never get past the checking subscription status 1/20, once it reached 20/20 it would kick me out of the game. I noticed that when in the past my firewall blocked LOTRO after an update a box would pop up and say that the client had been modified and would I like to allow this modification? But this particular time the box was not there. And, like suggested on the LOTRO forums, turning off the internet security didn't work for me, it was only when I uninstalled the software and successfully logged into LOTRO did I realise that ESET was still actively blocking LOTRO despite it being turned off. What fixed it for me was after I had reinstalled ESET I changed the firewall settings from Interactive to automatic. After that I never had another problem with LOTRO again. However, I did start to have problems with ESET, it became so intrusive that it started saying that my own IP address was attacking my computer and blocking me from accessing the internet completely. I uninstalled it and installed another security package and I've not had a problem since *fingers crossed I haven't jinxed myself!*

The reason I'm saying all this is because despite it not being about FFXIV, but another game, I know how frustrating it is not being able to log in and play a game that you want to play. It might be that my case was like a one in a million chance of it happening, or it could be a common occurrence that happens all the time. So, if you don't mind not having your Internet Security for a few minutes while you test to see if it is your firewall that's causing the problems with logging into FFXIV it's worth a shot? That way you can definitely rule out whether or not it's your internet security that is causing the issue, which will help SE in resolving the issues you're experiencing.

I really hope this helps you somewhat
