Food Effects & Information Overhaul Needed

I am going to start this out by saying, I realize SquareEnix likes the community to discover things and share them with each other. I like it as well more often than not, I enjoy sharing and helping my community. But there are some situations where leaving this information up to the community is a bad choice. Such is the case with Culinarian food buffs.

Every single food item in this game should show in the tooltip/description the exact benefits of eating this food. When you eat this food you should see its affects upon your attributes/stats. Accessores, Armor, Weapons... all these items grant a bonus of some kind. If you treated armor the way you treated food the community would be up in arms over it. So why do you torture an entire job by leaving everything in the dark?

I can understand leaving recipes for discovery, quest locations, what creatures drop what, where you can harvest this... But when it comes to something that grants a statistical bonus it is absolutely horrible to not have this info right in the players face.

MOST Culinarians cannot sell their food to players, they are stuck with it rotting on their retainers or are forced to sell it off to NPC's, so they can start a new job that may actually make them some gil and be of use. They have wasted time on a class that the overall community thinks is all but useless.

    1. Please implement into the food item tooltips the exact information on what Attribute/Stat it increases and by how much
    2. Please make it so that the effects of food are shown on a character attribute window after eating.
    3. Make HQ good actually useful. Currently food lasts 30 minutes by default. Make it so that that based on each tier of HQ the duration of the food increases.
    • Normal Quality: 30 Minute Duration
    • High Quality +1: 40 Minute Duration
    • High Quality +2: 50 Minute Duration
    • High Quality +3: 60 Minute Duration

Please give the Eorzean cooks something to look forward to, right now the outlook is bleak at best.

    EDIT: 04/26/2011

Thank you see for coming in here and letting us know that info is on the way for all players.. But I hope you plan to adjust the way foods buffs work to be less complicated and more worthwhile of all ranks... regardless of player's Stats and Element setups as the below link lists...

    http://lodestone.finalfantasyxiv.com...entry?e=144489

That link above lists the way food currently works. The system is overly complicated and worse makes food either useless at a certain point or minimally useful. Even if a player keeps there stats at a completely even 84 across the board they are going to eventually have stats to high for food to be of much use. Currently the highest affinity item in the food is a 67 which means once you get 75 in a stat food becomes alot less useful.

Please fix the food system completely because its current version is just bad. I am glad the info on what food does will be listed in game. But if the system is not adjusted this info is just going to reinforce how bad the food buff system currently is.

If players need to readjust there stats/elements just to make food buffs more optimal, food sales are just going to stay in the toilet.

I also agree with this, in part. At the very least, foods should show some sort of rough changes, such as "Increases Craftsmanship, Mind. Decreases Dexterity. Restores HP.", if the full increases / decreases can't be displayed. Please allow us to better help the players of this game by providing them with the proper items and not have to parse through data to figure out how each and every food affects the consumers.

    Agreed,

Also I recall Yoshi-P mentioning it in one of his letters. They're gonna give us cooks more love on the Battle System has been tweaked. No use in improving the food, if the battle system (among other things where the food will rely on) isn't ready. I guess they could do it for the DoL/DoH but then, might as well wait for a full overhaul. It's ok thouhg, gives us more time to rank up and have that edge when the market will want food ;-)

    Finally I find my friends

I am in agreement with all concerns presented and even fancy the HQ suggestions by the originator of the thread. I am happy to see my interests in food were not singularly bashed by the present condition of food effects. But to be completely fair we do have a lot of information about Food effects, and we can see some of the effects-HP,MP, and ATTRIBUTES (STR,INT,...etc). We even have discovered the correlations individual groups of foods have with specific Elements& Attributes. Heck, I still buy Shepherd's Pie before I go out to rank my MRD! But all that is not enough; I MUST see if it is true and how effective the truth is...

That is true, and I kind of forgot about that this morning when I typed my reply. I guess we can wait, but it's definitely important to do so after the battle system changes are mostly done.

    100% Agree with the OP.

I played FFXI and leveled cooking to 99.3.

As more and more expansions came out, I spent WAY more time trying to create demand for my food than just cooking it.
Explaining to each customer that their fish-kabobs maxed out many levels ago and now they needed whatever new items were available was a total downer. It's great to help each other out, but having to be a walking guidebook, and explain all 8 effects of Tavnasian Tacos was a total joke.

Everyone else gets numbers spelled out, and I gotta explain this to every guy I see?

    HP +20
    MP +20
    Dexterity +4
    Vitality +6
    Agility +4
    Charisma +4
    HP Regeneration While Healing +1
    MP Regeneration While Healing +1
Defense +25% (Cap: 150@600 Base Defense)

    Preposterous!

Yes, please to food effects made public!

I am not a Culinarian. I just want to the food to have some effect, and for us to know what that effect is. Otherwise it is an entire aspect of a game (and a class) that is broken.

    I agree that the food effects need to be made public because most of the community do not know what each food does, and that hurts us cooks when it comes to sales ; ;

I agree. I like levelling all my disciplines evenly so they can work together: Alchemist makes reagents used by my other DoH classes to make the weapons and armor I use (and eventually it'll make me potions too), DoL gets me the ingredients I need, alongside the battle disciplines which all benefit from each other... except the one problem is Culinarian. It doesn't help me at all, since I'll eat, say, a maiden carp and notice NO change whatsoever in my stats.

Players should not be expected to log out of game or tab out of game to search a website for basic information that should be available in a tooltip and I doubt that information is accurate enough to warrent not adding the info in-game.
