It does not need time, in fact the early phase was the only part where it made money. Its going to be 100% worthless very soon.The market still needs time to form. I'm finding level 10 materials with 50 entries on the market selling for 10-50X the NPC price and the gear its used to make selling for 8-10X NPC values. A couple new players that aren't familiar with the game may make the mistake of buying those items, but for the most part they will never sell. But people use existing market price to price their own sales (search ash logs and see they're selling for 80, so you post for 75). Eventually those numbers will come down.
A system I've seen used in other games that helped the market form was to post NPC prices on the market board for the item. That way people posting their own items have a much better idea what it's real value is and can decide whether to keep crafting at 40% NPC price or move on to another item which is selling for 95%.
