In my opinion, the actual act of crafting, the addition of the crafting log, etc are significantly improved from 1.0. However, currently there is almost no reason to be a high level crafter aside from making weapons for the relic quest and the level 50 DoH/DoL "AF" gear. Everything you can craft for DoW/DoM is so cost prohibitive just to make a single item, and only the HQ versions even come close to surpassing anything readily available through other content. At this point in the game, there isn't really much "end-game" value to being a crafter. So on that side of things, crafting in 1.0 was vastly superior.
In ARR, the fact that you need 9 animal fats, etc.. to craft one ilvl 70 item is a bit too much, where as in 1.0, you only 1 or 2 at 50k a pop. But then again, 4 or 5 of those items were need because of the low percentage HQ in 1.0.
Aar crafting sucks compared to 1.0. Yea you kept the glowing orb graphic, but it no longer means anything. You used to have to watch it for ques to see how your synthesis is going.
I prefered it in 1.0 due to the way the weather and moon phases effected your synth, I remember traveling to a place where there was a lightning storm to have better stability on my lighting crystal synth. The way to craft a low lvl item you'd need to kill the low lvl mobs for mats. Like for a dodo skin jacket, yea you need dodo leather, kill a dodo.
I do like the addition of craft log.
That orb does mean something, but not as much as it used to. I have noticed HUGE HQ% gains when it is "dark", but otherwise, you are right, it does not really matter. I have not really crafted much though, just enough to finish the quests (CRP Lv.50 1.0) and that was it.
Only thing I don't like, you can not quick synth dyes? What the hell is that? I gathered 100+ Grey Pigment, just to find out I could not Quick Synth it.
You really do need to watch the orb graphics. When it's red (or in "Good" status) you get a pretty decent jump in Quality, and you get a huge jump when it is flashing (or in "Excellent" status) compared to when it's just white.
