Granted, I'm tired of people referring to Arcanists as ARC and Pugilists as PUGs but the game does tell you the abbreviations via the default Gear Set naming scheme.

The game's GUI also actually states your current class/Job's abbreviation above your EXP bar in the game by default anyway, so there is really no excuse to get the official abbreviations wrong, and some of the abbreviations originated for the same Jobs back in FFXI (like White Mage=WHM), so some at least should be familiar to many players. I think some people just get used to calling them a certain way and it's a tough habit to break.

I like abbreviations I can read out whenever possible, so ARC to me is better than ACN by a wide margin. Although I reference that so little that I think I just spell it out all the way rather than the abbreviation. Should be SMN or SCH at the point we are taking frequent repeats of use that justify needing an acronym, rather than ACN lol.
