    Laptop Spec Question

Sorry if this is the wrong place or a question that is asked often but i didnt find anything on it. I recently purchased a new Dell Inspiron

    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Dell+-+Inspiron+Laptop+/+Intel%26%23174%3B+Core%26%23153%3B+i3+Processor+/+14%22+Display+/+4GB+Memory+/+500GB+Hard+Drive+-+Peacock+Blue/1648213.p?id=1218276046613&skuId=1648213

Which was simply just for casual use. I intended on waiting for the PS3 release of FFXIV to play but since the game is only $20 now i figured i'd try. Will my laptop be able to run the game on the lowest settings? Here are the key specs.

    Processor: Intel® Core™ i3

    Processor Speed: 2.53GHz

    Cache Memory: 3MB

System Memory (RAM): 4GB DDR3 SDRAM

    Computer Hard Drive Size: 500GB

    Graphic Card: Intel® HD

    Operating System: Windows 7

My main concern is the graphic card but yeah thanks in advance.

Intel HD is an onboard graphics chip, and is not capable of running FFXIV. It's mostly a driver issue. If you tried to launch the game, it would instantly crash.

Well to spare the forum another thread on this matter- A friend said he'd let me have his old gaming laptop so I'd like to know if it can handle XIV comfortably before I bother installing and updating just to get more trouble...

    System Bus Speed 667 MHz.

RAM / Max RAM : Up to 2 GB of DDR2 667 MHz memory, upgradable to 4 GB using two soDIMM modules.

Integrated HD/Intel Mobile/Low class Radeons/Lower class nVidia Will NOT run XIV.

nVidia 9700M GTS 512MB GDDR3 DEDICATED has a problem running this game. That laptop is by far NOT a Gaming laptop of any kind except maybe low quality WoW.

I speak from experience due to the fact I own a gaming laptop with that graphics card and Unless its Low/Standard you can't play XIV at playable rates @ 1440x900

    Toshiba Qosmio X305 Q701

    2.0Ghz Intel P7350 (45NM)
    4.0GB GDDR3 1066Mhz ram
nVidia 9700M GTS 512MB GDDR3 dedicated video card
200GB Hitachi 7200RPM 32mb cache SATA II HD

Just like the OP, the game would crash instantly if you tried to launch it on your machine. Doesn't matter what quality you want to play with.

Even if you do get it working, you might encounter the problem I have. I play on a laptop with a low-end mobile radeon chip. It works, and i'm not even on lowest graphics, but as it is a toshiba laptop, i -have- to use the toshiba drivers - I can't use the latest amd drivers. As a result, I'm generations behind on drivers. The end result is frequent (but predictable) closing of FF14 because of a failure to detect direct-x device. It is playable for crafting, or chatting, but certainly not for combat.

I'm not a genius (I'm actually REALLY dumb when it comes to hardware, and hardware interactions with software)... But I do believe there is a device called "Mobility Modifier" you should look into if you are limited to old drivers because of your OEM.
