Mainly i just wanted to point out that the updating is very slow to say i just got a new pc with everything i need to play this and when i went on last night it was in maintance it almost feels like i'll never get around to playing

Well yeah the current system really does need to change, unfortunately until then the only alternate method is to use the torrent program.

I usually don't have problems. I did the time before last, but this patch downloaded quickly.

The funny thing is, and I'm surprised at the lack of gamers who do this, is that I -always- download my patches via torrents, as they generally are just faster. But as far as the current system, the few times I have used it I've never incurred any real problems, but I definitely notice the speed difference. I grab torrents at about 1.5 - 2.5 Mbps whereas with SE's updater I only run between 400-700Kbps. Not really a helpful post but I'm surprised at the lack of you who use torrents for updates, but I guess it's all personal preference.

This update actually wasn't too bad for me, after the last update, I made modifications to what my firewall allows through, and that seemed to clear up the worst of my problems. It still took me about 2 1/2 hours and wasn't downloading at the highest speed available to me, but it least it didn't hit 0.0 for hours on end.

Still I agree that this updater is terrible, a consumer should not be expected to have a degree in computer networking just to update a game. to those who are still having problems:

- try the bittorrent
- try forwarding ports in your router (assuming you know how)
- try checking your firewall, and what it allows. (you may have to manually set FFXIV to "allowed" status.)
