Its all about registering that PSN code and Product Key to that specific square enix account.

You have to buy a PS3 version of the game to get those codes sadly. But after you open the case and get the codes and attach them to your account , only one copy of the game is needed to play.

As for the sqaure enix launch Page greying out the ID, that is attached to your PS3 local account then when you sign in with your psn account for the first it locks that id to it. Not sure why but it does. Hope that helps

Some people seem to misunderstand. I own a copy of FFXIV. My brother owns a copy. I can log my account in on any PC I want to, as can he. He can also log in on his PS3. I, however, cannot. I am not arguing that there is a way. All I am asking is if SE could allow any account to log into any platform without having to purchase a second copy just to play the same account on a different platform. I would not have a problem with having to tie it to another PSN account, but to do that I would have to buy an additional license. I am not complaining here ... just wondering if they have thought of making this possible. It seems a little weird to me since my Brother can play on both PS3 and PC without having to spend extra, but I would have to spend another $40 to be able to play on a PS3 with the license I already have.

FFXI was different than this. I owned FFXI on my PC and my brother again had the PS2 version. I could log in my account on the PC or the PS2 and he could do the same.

When I tried to log in we found that the account ID is greyed out and permanently linked to his PSN account. Are there any plans to allow PC owners to log in to other PS3's?
Sorry this sounded like a "Having trouble with this" question not os much a discussion of the nessecities of having to buy a whole seperate copy just for the ability to play on a seperate system. My bad. Anyway, I dont think so, it would ruin the money spent imaging and creating those ps3 discs as well as the PC disks. But im not economist or a developer or a CEO so i have no idea.

Square Enix changed this for FFXIV. You must register both a PC code and a PS3 code to your Service Account to be able to play on both platforms. Unfortunately, this means you have to buy both versions for your account, for it to be playable on both PC and PS3.

You must log out of your brother's PSN ID and log in with your own.

PS3 Registration codes are tied to both the PSN account and the SE Service account.

Once Logged into PSN, This can be seen under the Account Management > Service list > FFXIV > Standard/CE. This is the reason you are required to be logged into your PSN account when you register for the first time.

Here is how it works on when logging in on PS3:

When logging in on the PS3, the FFXIV client checks the PSN ID account to see if there a copy of PS3 has been registered to the PSN account. If not, the FFXIV client will refuse to run. If there is, then the client will load to the SE login page.

If this is the first time logging into the PS3 version, the client will prompt you to permanently tie your PSN ID to you SE service account. (Note: This is why the username is greyed out under your brothers PSN.)

A secondary check is ran after you successfully log in. After clicking START at the title screen, the SE servers check to see that you are logging in on a PS3 or PC, a check is run on your Service Account to see if you have activated a code the respective Platform you are trying to log in under.

So, in short, each player logging in, must login with their own PSN account, when attempting to access the FFXIV Client and must have a FFXIV PS3 code registered to the PSN account in order for the client to run.

I can confirm that if you own ps3 edition (I have CE) you cannot log in to any PC and play without buying a PC copy and registering that PC cd key to your SE account. I tried this and it won't let me play.

This actually raises another question for me. I'm gonna buy a digital PC download when they open it back up. Since I have a CE already registered to me on ps3, can I just get a standard PC edition and be alright? Or do I need CE for PC also to retain that status when I play on PC (and have access to those bonus items)?

Yes, you will only need to purchase the standard version. Just make sure when you are registering your code, you choose your existing Service Account, instead of using the option to Create a New Service account.

My brother only owns the PS3 version and can log into a PC without any problems. He does it when he come to visit, he logs in on my wife's laptop and plays with me. All he owns is the PS3 version though.

Did he own the 1.0 version? Because everyone who did got a free copy of the ARR PC version.
