Possible Server Transfers - is it worth continuing?

Just got the game to find I can't create a character on any EU server due to the restrictions. Created one on a US world instead but my ping to the US is ~120 and I'd prefer to be on an EU server for friends here in the UK too so my question is; is it worth leveling my US character at all? I don't want to invest time in him only to find he can't be transferred to and EU world once the restrictions lifted.

NA and EU servers are in the same location: Quebec.

The only reason SE have tagged them NA and EU is as a 'hint' to players so they play with others in the same or near timezone, as they mention in the charactre creation process; 'ping' times aren't hugely important TBH, 120 is perfectly fine in practice.

As for transfers, SE had planned to make them available "mid-September", so far they've not said that's changed .. BUT .. it will not be free, at least so far SE haven't said anything about offering free transfers in the light of the shambolic launch.

Thanks for the info! Well if my pings ok then fair enough. The timezone might prove a problem but at least I can level my character now - don't mind paying for a transfer if it gets me where I want to be

There's no guarantee that transfers between NA and EU servers will be possible, typical lack of any detailed info at the moment.

However it should be possible to get on an EU server now if you're able to try at off peak hours, the restrictions seem to be based on current server populations so all EU servers get locked at peak hours (as they were for much of the weekend) but then some generally open up to new chars at off peak hours.

(Apart from Moogle, that ones been perma locked for the last week)
