Translation error???.. throwing Cactus piss?

I remember this quest and though the same thing as well. I think the issues is that the word "piss" in out culture has been slowly turned into a "bad" or "vulgar" word. Im sure the word it's being translated from is a common word, and when translated turns into a western word that my seem a little unusual.

One of the meanings of piss is cheap booze. It's why you sometimes hear of someone being drunk as being pissed or bad booze being horse piss. Maybe it isn't as common in the US. This would be one of instances of them going for the more archaic feel.

I still got a good giggle out of this they really should cross reference vulgar words in games, I know there's an Npcs called "gitt" in gw2 which although spelt wrong is an insult xD I've seen a few others but they escape me at the moment.

They are cross referencing words, the localization team is amazing, and if you think they're not you haven't read up enough on Michael Christopher "Koji" Fox, aka my hero Fernehawles. Every word they use is deliberate, if its a misspelling, that happens, too much text, but they don't just use the wrong word, this game isn't being translated into English by Japanese people, its being translated into English by people who speak English as a first language, and Japanese as a learned one. Fernehawles is also the man when it comes to old English, archaic slang, I wouldn't question the localization team unless you were like a serious old english scholar and had like a phd in it, then I'd be like "damn you educated!", but most people barely know modern english enough now a days which is sad.

Another example, someone thought they were so smart by pointing out an npc says "you've got another think coming" little did they know, they just made themselves look stupid, since the phrase used to be "you've got another think coming" and over time we started saying thing, and as you know the dumber version always prevails because most people would rather say what everyone else says, rather than the right thing.

So maybe do some research before calling it out as an error. Not being mean, since you did say "don't know if its deliberate", but most people I've seen had way worst posts than you, so this more like a PSA for other people. The way you structured your post, I actually like, its more like "hey guys idk if this is right, lets group think" instead of "LOL ERROR IN GAME TEXT" like reddits.

I'm sure they knew what they were writing and I have to admit between the cactuar piss and occasional "shite" from various NPCs I've had many a laugh. Well done devs.

As far as I can tell, "Cactus piss" is just a name given by the people in-game that brew it. It's not urine; it is a foul-tasting, intoxicating drink. GamerEscape wiki has the full item description.

One of the many reasons I have always liked FFXIV: it's not written as if talking down to 8-year-olds. (*cough*swotor*cough*)

In Australia this word is quite commonly used more so by men than women. It is very slang and you would only use it amongst very close friends, certainly not with your employer, teacher, parents or grandparents. It is a slang word for alcohol. It's not the kind of word Ive ever seen in an MMO or solo player ever before. I believe FF14 is the first. Still laughing. If it were me Id use it in a dialogue rather than as an item name.

My favorite examples of archaic english are "anyroad" and "must needs" which I did actually research to find both littered throughout Shakespeare. Well done SE, well done. (Interesting note on 'must needs': you will se npcs say 'i need to...' but when 'must needs' is used there is more of an urgency to it.)
