You just craft the AF, and you get the best tool from the lvl 50 class quest .

Luminary and the lvl 50 quest tool have the same stats. Luminaries are big, golden and you can see them your back while the lvl 50 tools have some crazy awesome tables.

Im finally slowing down and started looking into my crafts for the first time yesterday and was wondering the same thing about AF for crafters. So battle classes get it handed to them easily in their quests but it seems really difficult to obtain crafting AF. From what Im seeing they all require darksteel which I believe requires coke which can only be purchased with tomestones. Correct? So pretty much the inly ones who will have crafting AF will be people who had coke from 1.0. Because I dont see anyone wasting tomestones on coke right now when they can purchase darklight for their battle classes.

Unless im completely wrong about materials needed. If so, can someone clear this up?

Well to answer my own question, looking at armorer AF you do need darksteel but not ingots so you dont need coke. But I assumed the class that uses the AF would be able to make it. An armorer can only make 1 of their 5 pieces. So the only way to make my armorer AF is to also be a level 50 leatherworker and weaver. Seems like a pretty crappy setup.

Weaver will make most of the crafting AFs, yeah, Weaver and Leatherworker.
You don't need the tomestone-based materials, yeah, but it's very incredibly hard to make them.
On the other hand, having those AF pieces is almost a requirement for the IL70 crafted gear (which does require tomestones) which outmatches Darklight gear

You get one piece in addition to the level 50 blue tool from completing the story line for the specific craft. Note it is specific pieces not choice one from the whole set. I found this out after I bought the armorer hands legs and feet.... which are all the available options to choose from...

Also the one star materials have a stat requirement to attempt to make so it is very unlikely a fresh 50 can even make them with out materia melded gear and/or the level 50 tools. But I think food stat additions counts towards the stat cap though so maybe I am wrong.

Actually a full set of materia-melded gear plus the ultimate tool plus accessories can get you high enough to craft your AF crafter gear. I know that because shortly after launch we all sort of pooled our resources into doing that >_> Spent all of my materia on our weaver, ahahaha.
