    I shouldn't have to add every FC member to my friends to be able to mail them! That is all.

    And, if there happens to be a FC member from whom you don't want to receive mail (because they are a rotten, miserable, disagreeable, low-down, dirty cretin and you're embarrassed to have to share a tag with them), just r-click and b-list them... oh wait, can't do that. Just go through the (awful) procedure to b-list them.
