Genuin question about the current state of the game.

Hey there forum dwellers,

Just wanted to post this thread in order to get a good view on how everything is going right now... I've been checking the forum threads here and that doesn't give off a good vibe. I take this with a grain of salt though (not sure if that's the correct way to phrase it, but I would have done it in my native language at least).

As many of you know, critics will be more likely to post their thoughts on something then those that have good words to tell about something. If you take the community of an average game and see that 80% of the players are content with how everything is going and 10% is so-so with everything going on and 10% is very unhappy. Then for some reason most of the messages you will hear is from the 10% that is very unhappy. 50% of the forum is negative because of those people (since they post more and tend to show how unhappy they are), the other 40% is just neutral stuff about the game and 10% is about how great everything is.

So with that being said I'd like to get a perspective on how the game is really operating right now... as you might have guessed I haven't logged in in the past couple of months (been to occupied with other games like League of Legends and Eve Online (2 totally different games... I know)). But deep down I always have this kind of unanswered love feeling towards FFXIV... Always hope it will have that magical feeling that FFXI gave me at the beginning... I know that might be alot to ask, and it probably will never happen. But that's ok I guess, just hope it's actually a game that will become worth the trouble and eventually worth the subscription.

So what's the situation right now? Also, I would really love to also see people respond here that are genuinly enjoying the game... Offcourse I'm open to read anyones opinion on it, even if it's not a positive opinion. Just try to keep it civil and fun to read... no one is looking for big rants, at least I'm not.

Theres a lot of positive changes and last night was the longest I stayed logged in doing active stuff in a long time.

The problem I have is my own fault. I campaigned so hard for the missing genders that now that they have announced them, and shown us what Female Roegadyn look like I'm hesitant to spend to much time leveling my ... uh 6? current characters because I know my main will be a Female Roegadyn. I'm also hesitant to do much until the Job System they announced is finalized.

I love the changes coming but I'm really waiting till the those two major ones are fully implemented before I dedicate myself.

Until then I just log in and do Behests and Leves.

If you want to find opinion that unbiased, login and interact with ppl in it. My opinion is OK, the game coming closer to what it should be when released, but the turning point is when new battle system released, around spring

I play since the open beta and I'm pretty happy with the game (would pay the 13 euro / month, no doubt). It has its flaws, but development is going the right direction I believe. Looking forward to the upcoming patches the next months!

Well that indeed does sound like a good option Aion, will most likely do that tonight (first have to install the game and everything).

I read about those targeting changes, that must be a really good approvement. Alot of my friends complained alot about that at the start (I never really experienced it as badly as they did with my controller, but still found it annoying at times).

What made the battle system that much better btw? The fixed SP and XP amounts that you get for a killing a mob? Cause that really is a relieve haha. Can't express how much I hated that randomness of those SP numbers...

For brevity sake: It's getting better but has a hell of a long way to go.

They've fixed up a lot of little touches that make the game a lot nicer. The biggest addition in content was the side quests and NMs, but last night they also added guild job boards. What else I don't know, I haven't had a chance to play and test it out. However, I have enjoyed all the changes.

Now that I am getting a bit higher in rank, I've been exploring more, and I've found there are some really interesting places in the world. Dips and valleys, or twists and turns in Gridania, will hide caves and interesting monsters that suddenly scale in level. I love to explore, so I'm having fun with this. They've also released a small amount of information on the Grand Companies, so thats been exciting.

The battle system hasn't been changed yet, so that's a pretty major thing. The feel of the game could change when that happens, hopefully for the better. While I personally enjoy the game, I don't think many other gamers would enjoy the battle system as is.

I haven't played FFXI, so I can't compare it, but I still have high hopes for this game. I have enjoyed it so far, but I still think it can be better.
