I'm all for changing an appearance for a few dollars. After playing for an amount of time changing your look is good.
I think having any cooldown on it is silly. If someone wants to pay $20 a day and chnge their appearance hourly let them do that, it doesn't hurt anyone else.

Do not make this game cash shop + monthly. That is horrible and completely ruins the entire point of having a monthly sub. Pick one or the other, not a hybrid of both. Make everything obtainable IN GAME if you are going to charge a monthly sub.

Fantasia should be obtainable in game through GC seals or dungeon currency or gil, give multiple options so anyone can get them.

These aren't cash shop items though. These are extra services that would otherwise not be available in game which impacts players in no way what so ever. Does the fact that the 'service' comes in a bottled, item form keep giving people the illusion that such a thing has anything to do with cash shops more so than paying for a service?

You get your full, pay per month experience without services like world transfers or character recustomizations. Such things are extra services that some people are willing to pay extra for, and again, impacts your experience in no way what so ever if you choose not to use them. Such things are never intended to be part of 'the experience' and use of such services are incredibly niche (while there is a charge associated).

We aren't talking about having Cash Shop costumes or boosts that can (arguably) impact the game here; I don't understand how people keep failing to see the difference. Unless its "I won't/can't pay for it, so they should incorporate it into the game, otherwise it'll be unfair because people who will/can will be getting something I'm not!"

WoW has done it for years. Faction/Appearance/Server Transfers were all in the same category.

No, of course not. It was a simple appearance change, with a high price to discourage people from constantly changing.

And how is this service any different than say race change in warcraft? I don't see anyone complaining about that. It's purely optional service just like server change. I'd be happy for having a race change option with ingame currency but i'll take what i can get.

I recall there was/is going to be a hairdresser in the game at some point, which works with ingame currency.

I don't see what the problem is. An optional service has nothing to do with cash shops which are a revenue for free games. I highly doubt S-E would sell items that would have impact on the game balance in any way. Some of you are making this a bigger issue than it actually is.

Why does it need to be such an ordeal? Is appearance changing so important that people shouldn't be allowed to change their looks when they desire? People should be able to adjust their appearance much as they want, especially since the game promotes the use of a single character. As long as there is a currency exchange why does it matter what kind?

Oh, don't get me wrong.
I really want this option available. I just believe that if it were purchased with Gil or Seals it would be too easy to obtain.

It's proven that expensive Character Changes/World Transfers discourage people from doing it constantly, especially if there was a cool-down on it.


I just personally prefer a real world currency exchange for this service, as almost every MMO that offers this service does the same.

I guess I feel like the characters we make are our identity. The people we meet will recognize us based on the race, looks and name. Now, the name is by far the most easily identifying factor - and the Fantasia doesn't allow change to that - but I still feel like if the potion is distributed in an in-game store, it can undermine our sense of identity.

However, I certainly see the need for a fix if you ever regret a design-choice made during the frantic fight to just get ON the darn servers during launch-week. We could easily look to the veteran-rewards as a great way to distribute a flagon of Fantasia. Maybe every 12 months? Its rare enough to actually put some thought into how you use it, but frequent enough to still allow for a change when you're really tired of that look.

Also, I'd love Hairdresser-NPC shops. I put a lot of thought into how I want my characters so I'm generally pretty happy with them, but even I would like the option to change my hairstyle now and then
