[suggestion] Facial Emotes, Hand Gestures, Lips, etc.

Is it too much to ask for a little human emotion? Honestly, how can we even call it a role playing game when the most basic actions are not accounted for? It is such a basic thing, such a small amount of development & yet the level of immersion these simple additions would provide is as yet unheard of in a video game... At least give us a chance, our imaginations can only go so far, spice it up!

    Eyes
    Nose
    Mouth

It isn't much, let us /smile, let our eyes /widen at the sight of it all, let /tears of joy fall from our hollow cheek textures... It can't be much to ask, given the emotes we have... I'd say the suggestion is rather conservative but I wouldn't mind if it got taken to a whole other level. I'd settle for facial emotions and an ability to toggle them.

I could come up with an endless amount of examples, but I'll just let your imaginations run wild.

In short, yes. At least, I think at this point.

I agree that it would be cool to have a more varied amount of emotions that you could perform, but it's definitely not a priority at the moment, and I'm not sure if it ever will be. FFXIV already has a pretty decent amount of animations that I'm pretty impressed with, especially in comparison to other MMOs. Their eyes actually do widen, their mouths hang open, they freak out when they panic. I mean, a lot of the motions are very exaggerated, but it makes them pretty fun.

I'd like them to add more animations at some point, but I think they already have enough on their plate.

    Also:

I think you might be underestimating the amount of extra development this might take.

If you just use '/emotename motion' you can do a fair approximation of all of these. Granted, actual tears aren't going to come down your face, but you still get the effect. I don't think it's necessary to add these particular motions at this time, though more animations in the future would always be a good thing.

Thanks for the input. The point I really wanted to get across was that the animations are already there.

    Faces image link thing...

Anyway, I can't imagine it would be too much of a chore to animate the head using the existing animations.

A good example would be saying something with a sad face. Or a happy face... It doesn't really matter. The important thing is that this kind of thing would certainly attract quite the crowd.

I like the emotes I have, just to mention. It's just that I want more in the game that serves no other purpose than creating a rich environment for me to play in. In all honesty, any good MMORPG should have an entire team devoted solely to social interactions... But why isn't that a reality? It just doesn't make sense. IT's the biggest factor IMO.

I know that on one extreme it could be a lot of work, but on the other it's really just a matter of backtracking.

Another thing that makes me really want to push the concept...

    Lets say you want to

    /panic

Sure, the animation is nice, but there really is a big issue here... Your character panics & instantly goes back to normal. It's just so un-natural.

Yeah, we can chain emotes, but what if you just want to smile or frown for a prolonged amount of time, what then? I can life without, but I think it would be a nice touch.

I like your suggestion, but agree that it is something they should not look into currently.

Lord of the Rings Online have this. When you use the /mood command, you can set a facial expression that stays until you set a new using the /mood command.

I like the idea of more use of emotion. Something similar to little big planet in which you could make your Sack boy look happy, sad, angry, scared and so on and so forth. It would be nice to be able to perhaps set your mood for the day. Set it to happy and your character will have a gentle smile. Set it to angry and the character will have scowl. About to take on a bit battle? Set it to scared and watch your character cower in fear.

And while the game has a ton of emotes currently I would like to see a few more that are more unique. The movement and mo cap in the game is great so taking advantage of that would be pretty cool in regards to emotes.
