    [Suggestion] Journal improvements

Not sure if this would be the right area for it, but the Journal as it stands is kind of hard to follow.

I see what they wanted to do but with sidequests now makes it cluttered. Would be nice to have it more like FF11, where quests(sidequests) where organized by the city/area they are picked up at and, Missions(main story) each had their own section.

For class quests can just move to their city and add (Job) at end of quests name.

Sure many of you might have better idea how to make it less a jumbled mess, but for 1 i liked how 11 showed it

Why not have the list down the left of all quests you are on split into "Main", "Side" and "Leve" sections.

They could be further split down by zone too which would be useful.

Then, have a pane on the right side of that window to show the quest details in when you select one.

You know... how WoW now does it

    It means that...

    A) You don't have to wait for it to open another window and then have to close that window before viewing another one.. you can just click down the list... much more intuitive.

    B) Removes the UI lag-time from opening new windows as the quest details could all be loaded when the journal is opened (this data should really be cached client side too) so it is instant when clicking on each quest.

11 was a mess as well if you ask me.

I have no problem with the current lay out of the journal.

Addition info such as optimal rank, completion status and area the quest is located at.

Mouse over to display the details would also be a nice addition, agree that the lag is annoying and it shouldn't be there.

A better system needs to be added for the map info, either add the icons directly to the main map or a new menu to the main map window to show quest icons.

Edit we had a similar discussion a long time ago over at ffxivcore

I will add the link to an image in hopes the devs will see it.

I mentioned this elsewhere, but this seems like a better place to mention it again.

If I want to figure out where I'm supposed to go to kill 8 marmots (or whatever), I open my mission map. But the mission map doesn't show the location of nearby aetherytes. So I've got to memorize the map coordinates, then close out of the mission map, close out the Mission card, close out the Journal, and then open up my main map, open up the appropriate map location, and scroll around until I find the map coordinates ... just to figure out the nearest aetheryte crystal. The mission maps should have aetheryte crystals on there so we don't have to use multiple maps just to figure out where to go.

Similarly, it would be much, much simpler if the location of mission objectives was put on our main map. As it is, you've got to open 16 different mission journal cards, then open 16 different mission maps, and then compare those locations to your current location. It would be much more user friendly to have the location of mission objectives placed on your main map, so you can see where you are, and all nearby objectives, without opening 17 different maps. I mean, I can't figure out why I -- as an adventurer -- would have 17 different maps, rather than just putting everything on one map.

Yea this can be pretty annoying, I've had to do the same thing numerous times.

Didn't see this thread. I also feel the journal needs change.

My idea is similar to Hades idea posted above.

Page 1, tab 1...whatever you want to call it. It can have Current Quests. Will list all your Current Quests on the top half of the left. Right half can act as a map (same thing as the current 'Map' button). When you click on a quest from the list, the bottom half (below the quest list) acts as the description box listing all the quest information and the map on the right (if applicable) automatically updates as you click on/highlight different quests. Players are able to click on the nearest aetheryte on the map (also adding in ability to add map markers would be a godsend) and be asked if they want to teleport to that aetheryte. This will streamline the whole process, be more user friendly, will eliminate all the unnecessary windows and add them into one.

tab 2 can be the 'Main Scenario Quests'. The left half lists all the quests and the right can be the description.

Tab 3 can be the 'Sidequests'. This is the same as tab 2 setup.

Tab 4 can be the rest of the craft and class quests listed in the current journal.

Tab 5 is a new feature and is the notepad. I think 99% of us has written down a piece of information, whether it was items names, recipes, LS events, date and times, player names, information on locations, storyline, things to do, IOU's...you get my point. It would be nice if players had a quick way to bring up, organize and store all those quick notes and information.
So I suggest you give players the ability to write/type in information in the journal. This system acts the same as the rest of the journal. Left side lists all your notes and on the right displays the note. Note information can be stored on the players computer/console.
