Carbuncles ALWAYS priority on auto target using gamepad

Seriously, its so frustrating. I am using a gamepad to play and when I press A to auto target the nearest mob, it targets a player's CARBUNCLE first, 90% of the time, and it will not let up. Its especially frustrating when I'm trying to do fates and I cant get any kills in because there's like 6 carbuncles in the way. I've even set my config for targeting so that I should ONLY be targeting mobs, and I will still target carbs first.

Is this some kind of bug? What are the carbuncles considered targeting wise that they take so much priority and I can't turn it off?

I stopped even using the button to target anything, only the D-pad or R1, because of this problem.

This is a serious issue and should be seen as such. As a PC player, I can switch to mouse/keyboard if this isn't resolved, but for the PS3 players I could see this causing enough frustration to just stop playing altogether. It gets old fast when FATEs are the primary method for leveling and every single arcanist pet takes targeting priority over mobs.

I can only see this as oversight. From a programming perspective, it makes sense; for an Arcanist, you need to be able to prioritize your pet in targeting to heal it. I think they implemented that, but didn't set it to only work for the Arcanist. It SHOULD be easily remedied, though I don't claim to know how the game is coded, so it may be more complex than I surmise.

According to the manual, A (or X on PS2/3) defaults to "Select Nearest Target/Confirm". Perhaps the pet is the closest thing to you?

As others have stated, use your arrow buttons instead. L1+Circle defaults to enemy targeting mode (if you've enabled the filters), and you just use left/right arrows to cycle enemies, up/down for party members (or you and pet if solo).

Once you figure out how to use targeting filters, this all goes away.
