Obtaining Additional Game Key (or using Multiple Characters on same)

Of course I searched, how do you think I even asked the question the way I did if I had not read those items.

I have read that its possible to use one account and log on additional characters, but I am not clear how that works. *It seems that you still need an extra game key regardless.
Is there a way to purchase a key through the account page (i did look and didn't see anything) or do you absolutely need to purchase an additional physical copy (and keep key, throw away everything else, which seems EXTREMELY wasteful!)?

The point is - they have not added any "key purchasing" method to the account site, at least as far as I am aware. So, I was wondering if I was missing something simple. It seems as if I am not.
