Do this:

Step 1: Throw out or sell gear you're not using and won't using from class quests or convert them into materia if you have full bond.
Step 2: Throw out or sell raw material you won't be using, if you're not a cook you have no reason to be lugging around raw meats.
Step 3: Utilize your retainers.
Step 4: Sell your Allagan coins.
Step 5: Stop looting everything just because it drops.

No one should have inventory issues unless they hoard everything lol. All in all, it was your fault for not checking your inventory space, you get a BIG popup in the top of your screen stating: "4 slots left....3 slots left....2 slots left...1 slot left...0 slots left.."

more like its 2013 why can your inventory even get full

BS. When you keep an item in the inventory it need to keep only the ref ID of that item or may be some small extra information as meterias. But it should be really small and no way that can cause memory constraints.

Even then I hoard everything and have plenty of space to spare. Retrainers are awesome.

Ever see those weird shows where people hoard items for like 50 years and they cant walk in their house anymore lol.

The game should go further and identify gear you don't use in a long time with quaint messages saying

"You don't need this anymore, do you?"

"Save the Lalafell"

While the inventory space in FFXIV doesn't compare to that in Eve, we still seem to get a reasonable amount. I do however agree with the OP that the handling of a full inventory could use improvement, even though I have yet to even approach running out of space personally.

I love this idea. There should be regular 'donate old gear to needy cause' events where we are rewarded for turning in old outdated useless stuff.

Currently, when your available inventory space is getting low, a message will appear alerting you to the fact that you're running out of space. This was created so that users could plan accordingly before entering into a dungeon or other content. As such, we do not have any plans for implementing a system that will place items into a pool or similar area in the event that your inventory is full.

pretty weak, since it was present in 1.0. You shouldn't remove the good things.
