Assuming zero wait time, dungeons are a pretty good way to XP. Fates are primarily popular because they require less effort for the amount of reward.

It's not bad at all, but it can't compare to exploiting FATEs for 100k+ EXP and such. >.>
Yes its bad. Dungeon xp should be increased. I actually tried a fate group today and within 30 minutes I got over 200k xp. In the hour it took to do the 47 dungeon I got 96k xp. To me this is just pure BS. Not only are the fates boring as hell, the xp from them is just insane. Either lower the fate xp or increase the dungeon xp. Me personally I'd like to see the dungeon xp increased. Encourages more people to use the duty finder and dungeons in general are just way more fun.Well people say fates are best, but im lv 44 and doing a fate gives me like 10k XP with gold, but when i went to the lv 41 and 44 dungeons i was getting 1.4k XP per mob, mobs are ing roups of 3-4 so that's 4-5k XP per mob group that takes a few mins to kill, the fact you can kill these constantly all the way through the dungeon seems pretty good.
Now i tried to lv on fates on the snow zone and i was stood for 5 min waiting for one, then if i could get to it in time and get gold/silver id get 10k in 5-10 min, so are dungeons really as bad as people think? because from where im sat it seems dungeons are much faster and more enjoyable and constant...
Fates are bad, yeah... but I think it's a necessary evil.
It's not optimal, but practically everything gives you xp anyway. I do hunting logs and such to learn the terrain and run across the occasional FATE, where I run in and just spam overpower (WAR for now) and always take gold. The xp is really unbalanced as far as job contributions, but the problem lies in the 100 people swarming the mobs, which die in 2 seconds. I don't do FATE grinding parties because the xp is cheap and brainless, I'd rather earn it. Just do as you want, there are so many terrible 50s from FATE grinding (since they never learn their job at all), and at least you can get a feel for your jobs while you level up.
Sorry but I disagree. Time invested into dungeons should be more rewarding than it currently is with xp.
The trash mobs actually give a good chunk of XP per kill, even scaling down to a lower level dungeon you'll still get a good influx of XP from the monsters themselves. The end reward isn't great, but the XP per kill seems to compensate for that.
My problem is the dungeons becoming not viable financially towards the end of the game, but that's a different matter!
Like others have said, I think the dungeons are as designed and pretty well balanced (in terms of XP. Gil wise? Total disaster.)
It's the FATEs that are unbalanced and problematic. Virtually no work for rewards that aren't remotely proportionate to the effort any one player is putting into it. If you solo/duo a fate you'll walk away with the same XP/Gil/Seals as if you'd done it with thirty people. That's just weird.
Fates are bad for the game imo. People are steaming to 50 on multiple jobs without learning their skills on the way. Its just a spam fest. WHM's dont need to learn the finer parts of healing, BLM's dont learn aoe/sleep rotations, just spam blizzard 2's, Tanks dont learn how to keep hate. The result is all these players hit endgame and then come unstuck very very quickly. You cant expect to go in some of the fights in just AF and the rest of your equipment at level 19 or whatever. I think perhaps fate exp should be capped to a certain amount per day or week to stop its abuse. Its almost like being powerlevelled. Having said that gotta admit ive been spamming fates on my SCH and already level 37 without really knowing the strengths of the SCH job...
