    Odin crashed Balmung.

Pretty sure it was the Odin fight that crashed balmung. SE needs to fix this somethin' fierce. Entire party couldnt load for the entire fight, then died from fail-AOE and all 90K. Now 10105 and 2002 or "queue 195" on endless loop. Lol.

Now I'm hearing that the issue was server wide, seems hardly a coincidence that all of this would occur concurrently with the Odin fail.

They'll eventually copy what gw2 does with culling and overflow servers...

I was in the area where Odin spawned but there was no Odin, no players, no NPCs or mobs just an empty area that was marked blue on the map. Then disconnect and 10-15 minutes of errors, queues and more errors. People outside the zone probably suffered lag and disconnects because so many people were switching zones or logging in with the hope to participate.

I managed to participate in the fight a few days ago but players and Odin kept phasing out, making it difficult to meet the criteria for gold (not that I would have gotten it due to my level) There were many complaints about only earning silver despite fighting the entire duration.

Its very frustrating and SE should have anticipated the number of players that would want to participate in these kind of fate events (that goes for a lot of other things too...). Due to the potential rewards they are not the type that people will pass up or wait for later.

The texture culling is just rediculous, but the server lag is the real kicker. The same thing happened to me and some friends on Odin, where we were the first to arrive and the first to disconnect. WE couldn't even hit odin before disconnecting from too many people in the area.

i saw no Odin or players or mobs but i was constantly hit and it showed a sword slicing animation on me with each one. Then I got disconnected and when I managed to get back on he was gone.

I thought what I'd do was, I'd pretend I was one of those deaf-mutes.

It was something of a perfect storm.

It just so happened that the FF14 roleplay community was hosting a well publicised gala/meet and greet/masked ball event type thing in North Shroud- an event that was already taxing the server. Then Odin showed up and suddenly you had something akin to 4 raids worth of people piling onto a single target... needless to say, this did not end well.
