This is awful game design through and through, and there's no reasonable excuse for something like this to exist.

From the top up voted post on the video response: "Thing is XIV is really a mostly casual game. Sure it has hardcore content but most of it caters to casual players. And casual players don't min-max so putting all dots and hots on server "timer" is a smart move overall. Why? It helps you not to lag during those insane fates where theres 100 people all casting spells and abilities on the same mob. If each dot had its own "timer" the server would lag during fates. Smart move SE."
My response to him:
He's absolutely right, this game is just beyond stupid easy. Except for the primal fights, and a few dungeons, its pretty much button mashing, sleep fest of a game.
OH yea I also forgot, this entire video is obsolete, why? Because on 95% of the DoT or HoT spells, you can re cast it on the mob before the original one is over, and refresh the DoT.... So why does it matter anyway?? Between being able to refresh the DoT and HoT spells 95% of the time before its even done, and how incredibly spamtastic easy the game is... The point is mute.
That video is hilarious. He is so mad and really doesn't justify why other than 'it works different from other games!'
It helps with lag and since everything works this way it evens out just as well as 'other' games. clam down.
While this is different in other games it isn't neccesarily a bad thing, just different. Gameplay wise at least.
Performance wise it's a big deal. I came from GW2 here and there different tick times ment that they had to limit the number of dots a mob could have and even drasticaly limit the number of mobs you could hit (to 5) so you don't dot up to many things at the same time. Of course, 1 person dotting doesn't put much stress on the system even if dots up a 100 mobs. The issue is when the whole population of a server does it.
Honestly I wish they had the same sense of efficiency in other areas...
