Being Forced To Wait 10 Minutes For Character Connection Timeout (No Thanks.)

    Well.

My Comcast connection reset itself ten minutes ago, disconnecting me from FFXIV and I am now stuck waiting for my character to time out so I can log back in.

I really would appreciate it if Square Enix would increase the "connection keepalive" checks so that when a disconnect happens, the character would be logged out of the game by the time the player attempts to reconnect.

Basically, it goes like this: Player gets forcibly disconnected by douchey ISP. Player gets back online, attempts relog. Server recognizes login attempt, automatically disconnects any "ghosts", and permits the player to reconnect on the second login attempt.

Please, implement this. For the love of all the Gods that have ever existed in the lifetime of humanity, implement this. I am SICK of waiting 10+ minutes for my character to time out.

Edit: This is the fifth time it's happened in as many days.

This version? You mean after one of the recent patches?

@Kaedan Well I can guarantee you that I'm not the only one who's had to wait the ~10 minutes. I'm not sure if this has been changed in a recent patch, like Evangela seems to be implying. If it has, then great..

Whenever I've dced in the past, relogging on did not log off my character that was "stuck" in game. One other thing I know I tried very recently. My friend had logged on my account and was afk in town. I tried to log on and it would not let me..so it does not automatically log him off at his end. Again, not sure if this has been changed very recently. And maybe it's working differently for different people, as you don't seem to have this problem.. which is quite weird:P

This is a common problem in pretty much every MMO out there

something to do with when your provider has a hickup and your character doesnt log out correctly. You basicaly cant log in until it times out

The solution is to have the server LOG YOUR *BLEEP* CHARACTER OUT...WHEN YOU ATTEMPT TO LOG IN AGAIN...that's what I was suggesting here.

And in regards to Comcast, I'm going to ask them to replace the stupid modem.

lol yes that is a good option

but i can also see a HUGE downside to it too which i wont go into and thats probly why it isnt like that anwyhere(it does seem logical but there are reasons)

It does seem to happen alot more with comcast then other providers too but thats cuz comcast sucks in general

    It does. >.>

When I disconnect, all I have to do is try to connect again. This logs the character out. Then you should only have to wait a minute or two before trying to log in again.

The problem comes if you're trying to spam your login. If you do that, it will take much longer.

    Pretty much like he said.
I was sharing my beta account with a friend of mine, and when I was playing and he wanted to log into the game with my account, the session would have been closed.

Needless to say, that's pretty much what every MMO, online game, Internet service does.
