Interesting, I just know that twice during that instance items popped up saying MRD/GLD, and the TMG got it. I was on the phone with my friend and he said he was pressing need. Either he was mistaken or there was some kind of bug going on. I also noticed that every single regular monster drop that happened went to the same TMG. His name was in the chat log a dozen times for getting items, either from drops or chests. Hell maybe he was cheating?

Sadly, because it was in an instance, you'd have to know what Server he was from (and he'd have to tell you true to actually find him)... It could be that the items were Shields, and one or both could have listed THM, BLM on it... (One Pink, One Green, or 2 different types of Green).

That is unless they let you call 'Need' on it if you have the class at the proper level+ and just not using it?

If it's a Shield, the THM/CNJ can Roll a Need on it too depending upon Stats of the Shield.

If it's a DoW gear (not MRD/WAR/GLD/PLD Exclusive) then it's gonna be any DoW (LNC, PUG, ARC, MRD, GLD) can roll Need on it.

If it's an 'All Classes' gear, all classes can roll GREED on it.

What I want to know is what happens if all 4 players 'Pass' on the Loot.

Half right. Any class at anytime can roll greed on anything. So even if it doesn't say "All Classes", then all classes can roll greed. And as for the other part, you are completely wrong. A tank can never roll on armor that says DoW or All classes because those are specifically mage or DPS gear. Even if it says DoW, a tank can't roll need because the stats of the gear do not fit his role. In fact, tanks can only roll need on gear that is tank exclusive. The same for a robe that give int. A CNJ can't roll need even though it says "All classes" because it is specifically for mage DPS. If a shield dropped (I'm assuming that was the case) it probably had mage stats, which is why a tank can't roll need on it (as my point earlier, it is not tank exclusive). Shields that are meant for tanks do not allow mages to even equip them.

Well thank you for the information, its nice to know my buddy did not get screwed after all. I will pay closer attention to the exact stats from now on, on all drops.

Check the chatlog next time. It tells if you if someone wins an item with a Need or a Greed roll.

Is it possible your friend mixed up need and greed, thinking that Greed is the better of the two? I've seen that happen a few times with non english speakers.
